Dog Meat

Australia

Here I am with another animal post. I came across this article when I was looking for a picture to post on my last discussion. This is horific. It made me angry and I even wrote an email to the president of the Phillipines. http://www.gan.ca/campaigns/philippines+dogs/factsheets.en.html

It's so shameful and so sad that Philippines are known for that. But my family and I are all against of it. I experienced before that my dog was slaughtered by one of our neighbors. After i arrived from the church,i then looked for my puppy but i was really upset, shocked and cried a lot when i found its head on the garbage. I don't think they are really starving for dog meats. They are so cruel and i really hated them that did that thing to my puppy. After that incidence, i never again tried to own a dog coz i am afraid they might do it again.

I'm so sorry to hear that. That would be the most terrible thing. Couldn't you press charges against them? After all they stole your dog. Surely that's illegal?

Really terrible. But it's still very sad tht our local governments don't care or mind about it both stealing or slaughtering your dogs.

That is just disgusting! Those poor animals. I really don't get why people would do that I mean you would think if they were going to sell the meat they would want them well fed. Not that selling the meat is right by a long shot but to starve them and not give them water for days just doesn't make sense! I to get very upset when I see something like that. :(

Yeah it's crazy isn't it. Hopefully with some education and change the conditions can improve for them.

It's almost like they are fighting a loosing battle with the money involved. The government won't do much if they stand a chance to loose all that money.

It is horrible that dogs are being treated like this in Phillipines and other areas of the world. I am in favour of more education and international pressure to stop this absurdity

I don't see the big deal. Dogs are animals. We eat animals all the time, so why not dog? Now, stealing someone's pet and eating it is a totally different subject. That is a violation of someone's property rights and just downright disrespectful. As far as I am concerned, exacting retribution for the killing of a pet should be considered justifiable homicide.

hi coffeeshot! Dog eating in the Philippines started as a religious rite...It's is really a horrific practice, but i don't think that Philippines is condemned with such practice. Of course, not the entire Philippines/Filipinos do this, only a very very small portion of the country's population, thus, its not appropriate to make conclusive comments about Filipinos, right? (I don't mean you, but I just want to express my thoughts here). There's no perfect country:its has its own strength and flaws. Now, what is commendable is that the government of the Philippines is trying all its best to stop this practice, (as stated by the website you mentioned above) which I know they are successful

Oh I definitely don't think badly about Philippinos as a whole. I had a philippino friend growing up. I'm aware it's only a small section of the population. I do really hope the government is successful at this. Thanks for the info/
