dont get me wrong, there is nothin wrong with being arabic but we're simply not, we're lebanese, a mix of all the nationalities in the world, nobody in lebanon is a pure race. lebanon's civilisation dates back 6000 years ago, we're pheonicians but were conquered by many other civilisations like the greeks, the romans, the mamluks, the arabs(muslims comming from the arab gulf), the ottomans(turks) and the french. plus lebanese language may be derived from arabic but is different from the arabic in the quran or the arabic spoke in the rest of the "arab world" the main reason why this denial has become more apparent is because of what's happening in the world and the growth of muslims terrorism, lebanese ppl, and specially christians, are denying being arabs and it's very often that a lebanese in the western world, if asked if he were arab, would respond ny saying no, i am lebanese! what do u think abt this subject?

I do not think of Lebanese as Arabs but as Lebonese. What little I know of the place comes from the writing of Kahlil Gilbran and that I know that Lebanese Catholic Priests are allowed to be married unlike Catholic priests elsewhere, I think the Lebanese Church may have been part of the Orthodox at one point. I imagine it is a rather beautiful country if only because of the trees that are named after it. all the best urban

acutally the lebanse church was never part of the orthodox chirch. the majorities of lebanese christians are maronites (after saint maroon) but minorities of catholics and orthodox do exist. the maronites are part of the catholic church and their highest spiritual leader is the pope.

Ah, thanks for the correction, but didn't the Maronite Church break away from the Roman Church for a time? all the best urban

I work in an Arab country and I can say that yes Lebanese people sometimes don't want to be called Arab. Of course Arabic is their first language but most of them can speak fluent French. 40% of their population is Maronite Christians. Some Lebanese have French names too.

BUT I HOPE THAT THE WESTERN WORLD WILL UNDERSTAND THAT . IT'S THE SAME THING WITH THE PERSIANS THEY EVEN CALL THE PERSIAN GULF ARAB GULF MOST OF THE COUNTRIES IN MIDDLE EAST might speak arabic but they have different histories and cultures.
