What's the cheapest tropical vacation destination?

I don't need to stay in a nice hotel or anything. I just want somewhere safe a clean, with decent food. Is there a place out there where I could live decently on a few dollars a day?

Carol, basically anywhere is central and south america is very cheap. As long as you stay out of the 'tourist' areas like Cancun. When I was in Lima, Peru last year I had a 3 course meal (appetizer, main dish, dessert and drink) for only 10 soles. Thats about $5 USD. Can't go wrong with that!

Camping or staying in cheap beach huts are ways explore some countries. I suggest Thailand, the Philippines, Sri Lanka or Indonesia in your part of the world. Further away, Guatemala is very cheap and the countries it surrounds are slightly more expensive. I think a flight can be the most expensive part in your budget.I suggest buying Lonely Planet on a Shoestring book for either South East Asia or Central America. Then you can always pick out the cheapest place to stay. Sometimes it is economical to carry some food yourself or it might be cheap or eat out at the lower end of the market.

Well, as tropical I can't tell you where, cause I am from Europe, so that's it, but if you need cheap you can come to Romania, not seaside cause it is expensive and not luxury at all, but in the mountain zone it is superb and not very expensive. As tropical I would say Mexico could be, from my knowledge. take care and have fun in your vacation.
