How safe are candles? Do you use them often and keep them lit for hours?

We only use candles on occasion. When we do, we are generally aware that they are burning and attempt to have them safely situated. Now that our kids are mostly grown, it is fairly safe. When there are little children in the house, anything can happen at any moment. You would almost need to stare at the candle with a glass of water at the ready. Candles do make a special ambiance and bring pleasent smells. Closest thing to an indoor campfire.

I have never really though of candle being unsafe. I do worry about my cats tipping them over and making a mess. The only candles I light are in lass jars and I feel like they are safe. I do worry about my oil burner and the hot oil spilling. I think the burn would be much worse from that than just about anything a candle could do to you.
