About 8 years ago my husband and I were in a different city for a few months and stumbled upon a wonderful little eatery/bar that served the most delicious burgers. They were listed as Buffalo burgers and went on to explain the benefits of buffalo vs beef...lower in cholestrol, way less fat, more flavorful...we ate there several time during our stay and since we have come home we have found several markets that sell beefalo and buffalo...on the 4th of July we had buffalo burgers on the grill and everyone LOVED them..have you ever tried this meat? and if you have....did you find you must cook it less time than beef patties and that it is VERY flavorful? What has been your experience if any!! I find them yummy and I am pretty picky about my meat eating...

I have had them, they are quite good. I used to work in a restaurant that served them and they were a big seller. We have a place in our area where they raise them and sell the meat in a variety like sausage, jerky etc. I have noticed a lot of Buffalo farms sprouting up in this area the past few years. I love watching them.

Uh-oh...now you've reminded me of the source of my great tasting burgers...and that they ARE beautiful to watch..I could so easily be a vegetarian for this exact reason!!!! I struggle at times with killing animals for food...but then I deliriously dive into a buffalo burger and it all flies out the window!!!! Therapy perhaps??? LOL

I haven't eaten buffalo. I'm just very leary about trying new stuff. But,I did pick up buffalo burgers for my husband and son-in-law once. They thought that they were okay. My son-in-law thought the meat was a little "gamey" tasting. My oldest daughter & I weren't brave enough to try it.

That's so odd...because I won't eat deer or gamey meats and I love buffalo!!! I didn't think it had any gamey taste at all!!!Everyone has different tastes!!!

The gamey taste is what makes them so good. That is where the wonderful yummy taste comes from. If you don't like gamey tasting meat then you did the right thing not trying it. But if you like deer meat then you would prob. like the buffalo. :)

I buy ground buffalo several times a year because I love it. It does cook faster, and you should cook it on a lower temperature than beef to keep it more moist, since the fat content is so very low. If you ever get a chance, get a beef roast. It's delicious. Just remember to roast it at a lower temperature and for less time. There are several buffalo ranches in this area as well.

It does require lower temp and less cooking...but when done right it tastes awesome...not gamey or wild...I thought it was a really expensive cut of steak that had been ground when I first had it!!!

Do you eat meat ( as in beef?) or are you a vegetarian? I don't blame you for being put off...if I would have known when I first tried it, I bet I wouldn't have let myself enjoy it...our minds play weird tricks on us!

I absolutely love buffalo. Often I'll get ground buffalo and use it as a substitute in dishes that call for ground beef. The flavor is so good. My first experience was actually eating buffalo sausage at a restaurant in Kansas when I moved from New Jersey to Colorado. I get a lot of friends who ask me about it and find it hard to believe when I tell them that it's better than beef. Next time I fly out to New Jersey, I'm gonna bring some ground buffalo and slip it into something to serve them.

People are so funny they think it's going to taste like elk or deer meat...but it doesn't.. I don't like the wild, gamey meats..but buffalo is excellent.

Its funny you should bring this up because we were just talking about this at our Fourth of July picnic. My boyfriends dad just had major surgery for liver cancer and he can't eat a lot of things. His other son bought buffalo meat for him. It was the first I ever heard about it. Now I regret not trying it.

Oh YES I love it. They also have hot dogs and brats and the steak is to die for. There is a buffalo farm not too far from us. It is so good and so tasty. Yummy. I very happy for you that you were able to try it. I would tell every one to try it UNLESS they like their meat well done. Then it would be too dry. If you like your meat cooked anywhere from med. to rare then this would be a fun thing to try. :D
