big..I think it was a pitbull..The chain had to have been very heavy...No way would I subject my pet to that...He also had a spiked collar..I don't think this was to benefit the dog but to make the owner look important..What do you think about this?

I have not seen this too much but what i really hate to see is a dog chained up for long periods of time. In the winter their water bowl freezes over..and in the summer the water sometimes is empty..and the dog is very hot and thirsty..so they bark a lot..but a spiked collar to make the owner look important is really making the owner look quite the opposite..methinks.

I know it was just to make the owner look good..But it just makes him look stupid..Because he doesn't know anything about dogs...I hate it when owners don't make sure their pets are watered....They just don't deserve pets...

without realy knowing either it is hard to say may be he was just starting to handle the dog and pits can be very strong and the spiked collor does help on the pulling tho I have found a harness that i like much more then any chocker it puts pressure on the leg muscles to slow it down instead of on the neck causing pain

I just don't want to see a dog in pain...The pit wasn't too big but there are other ways, like the harness you spoke of...that would be better..

The standard size for a chain leash is about 1/2 - 3/4 inch diameter. From your description, it sounds like this is a "custom" leash and the "spiked" collar is definately a "give away". This guy likes to think he is "tough" and "macho". Unfortunatly, guys like this tend to get breeds that have a reputation for being "mean" and then they proceed to ruin the dog by training them to be mean.

Each loop was about 3 inches in length and the metal was 3/8 of an inch thick...It looked like a logging chain..It was ridiculous...poor dog...I agree with the bad training part...sad for the dog...

Yeah, I've seen people do that before, putting a huge heavy chain on a dog to make it look mean and tough. It makes the owner feel more macho, I guess. I think it is awful. The chains feel heavier to a dog than they would even to a person, since all the weight is suspended from the neck, not laying on the shoulders or anything. Plus, if it is left on all the time, the dog will get bald spots in it's fur, if not open sores. I say, if you "need" to have a tought looking dog, stick to the studded leather collar, at least they are lighter and actually designed to go on a dog's neck.

I don't think the dog was his top priority..He was just showing himself off...at least he thought he was...

That was just some idiot trying to look tough. He was tying to make it appear as if his dog is so vicious that he needs to keep it on a huge heavy chain. It's ridiculous. The poor dog will probably have problems with it's neck and shoulders later in life from carrying that arounf his neck.

That is what I was thinking..some people are just so stupid..The guy should have to wear it and see how he likes it...
