How Articulate you are?

I try to be but I know I am not. I think that learning a language is much easier than actually writing persuasively. I see a lot of posts here that are very well written. Theme aside, I just love reading them and enjoy how beautifully they are written and ideas are expressed. I do value the theme very much but it's always a pleasure to read an eloquent post. What about you, are you articulate? can you make your idea through? Is a great idea poorly expressed more worth than an average theme beautifully written?

hi kamran.am not.I see a lot of posts here well written with an average and sometimes with simple themes.Really i love to read them. Some of mylotters are here who always write beautifully and get good responses to their simple themes.I wonder some of the discussions with great idea getting few responses while simple and descriptive discussion getting hundreds of responses.Well coming back i think am poor in starting discussion and expressing my ideas descriptively.Still i fighting to do that.Actually when i join here i was posting 2-3 liners after some practise improve to write 7-10 liner discussions.Let us see how this practice help me to write more descriptively and same time beautifully.I think you are good in responding and sometimes in starting discussions.Well i wanna inspired by other mylottesr who are good at.smiles

Hello mymytri!:-) you are right that some people post simple discussions and get lot of responses, probably because it's always easy to respond to simple ideas or questions. It's really great that you are trying and improving with time. I think that you already write better than me and I often like your posts. Wish you best of luck in your struggle with writing and I too wish to improve myself with practice. Thanks for sharing:-)

I always think I express myself better and more persuasive in writing than in speech. I don't know if you can call that articulate, but when I write something I can get my ideas across better and I take my time in composing it just so people get exactly what I mean. If not, then I feel that I failed. Most of the time, what I write comes from the heart, or curiosity, sometimes it's only fun and daily activities, sometimes it's spiritual. I write better in responses than starting my own topics.

Hello LittleMel!:-) I believe you are always neat, very understandable and expressive. I never found it difficult as such to understand you. I too find myself better in responding but even then I believe that you are a better writer. Thanks for sharing:-)

Learning a new language is hard enough, but to learn English is one of the hardest languages to learn. And writing it is the hardest. There are so many rules opf spelling that just don't make sense.English is my first language and I am still trying to learn it.Am I articulate? I hope so.The hardest thing to do is describe what you have seen in written form.I hope I do a good job, but I don't know.A great ides poorly expressed may be discarded because no one will understand it.An average theme beautifully written may get more attention but it may be brushed aside too because it is average. So I guess I wouldn't respond to either.

Thank you. I try. I studied French in school and I found it so much easier to learn than English. There are rules but they make sense. The only thing that was confusing was how to tell time.I know what you mean about speaking the proper form of a language. Here in the States, we don't speak proper English. And if you do speak proper English, you may not be understood in some places.American English has a lot of slang in it.

You must be very intelligent sarahruthbeth22, if you found French easy. I am usually lost in the conjugations (there are around 40-45 for each verb, well, they can be less too) which are much less in english. Plus women and men are treated alike in english. So one must be intelligent to pick every thing. You are right that local language is usually filled with slangs, same is here:-)

Hello sararuthbeth22!:-) You are right that there are many rules for spelling in English, singular to plural transformation, exceptions in grammar etc. I wonder what would you think of French then? French has so too many conjugations that you will be lost in them, not to mention lots and lots of exceptions in every rule and speech:-) and whole lot of different words to deal with feminine and masculine forms! You are right though, even natives try and I see many who don't write very well. Same is true for many languages. I am sure that many of my countrymen (original) do not know the language as it should be known. Many a time many people even do not understand if something is written linguistically very well. I recall when I used to speak in pure language, people used to stop me to explain what I said:-) You are a good writer, I can see that. You have very good observations in the last part of your post. Thanks for sharing your views:-)

I don't think that i am articulate though i do wish that i am most of the time. It takes quite some time for me to express my thoughts so that it is clear for the other readers to understand. I do prefer great ideas no matter how poorly it was written. The fact that i can see it as a good idea is good enough for me. However, something that is beautifully written is definitely a pleasure to read. You might want to go through my posts to see if i am good enough to be a writer *LOL* you'll be surprised with what you read. Cheers! - Lyn

I actually see it the other way:-) I think acknowledging that some body writes better than me gives me further motivation to improve myself by learning from those people. So, it's beneficial for me and I think right should be placed where it belongs for one to be just!

Hello camar_lyn!:-) It takes a long time for me too in trying to be understandable, I usually spend much time in editing my posts especially if I am writing something which I consider important. I have seen some of your posts and I can tell you that you write very good, better than me:-) Thanks for sharing your views!:-)

I agree with you. There are a lot of posts here that are really well written. I can't say I am among those who have very good writing skills here though. I watched a movie this morning and I realised how people can be very articulate when they speak too. There are some world leaders who have this gift of being extremely articulate and persuasive. It could be a gift or it could be they learnt it.

Hello 2wicelot!:-) You are right that there are whole lot of people around who are very articulate, both in writing and oratory. I think it's a mix perhaps like it may be a gift and it can also be learnt or perhaps it's a gift which is polished by learning! I find your writing neat, clear and understandable as well as well written more than my own!:-) Thanks for sharing your views:-)

Yes it could be a gift that is polished by learning. I believe your writing is much more clearer than mine. I think your writing is the easiest to read here because of the way you put spaces in between the paragraphs. I really like the way you write.

Yeah your right. In some instances, we choose to read some posts that are very well expressed or written. But, in my point of view, it is not important on how beautifully it was written, as long as the person had expressed his/her ideas with all his/her heart. Not all people here in myLot are very fluent in terms of speech delivery, but I always admire people who tried their best just for them to express their own notions or opinions. Good day!

Hello braveheart07! I certainly have high regard for people who write from their heart and bring up some very interesting and thought provoking pieces of writing, though not very well written. The point is, however, what if they write in such way that is not understandable? all the great idea will come to a collapse if no body is going to understand it! What do you say? I do know that majority of people write at least what can be understood, even with some effort though. I try my best to read carefully so that I don't miss anything and I look for thoughts more than the style. Thanks for sharing your views here braveheart07:-)

Neither. I would still go for good ideas or content that is well written. To settle for anything less is mediocrity. I may not be THAT articulate but I do express myself as best as I could considering that English is not my native tongue.

I think I am passingly articulate when I want to. Then again, writing requires some passion. It is hard to write well unless you are in the right frame of mind and are willing to put in the effort for it.

Hello lordwarwizard!:-) I think you are much more articulate than just passing, much more than myself at least! I have already suggested you somewhere in your post that you can make a career out of it. You are right though, that it requires passion and being in right frame of mind. I have known some people though who can write beautiful pieces in no matter what state or perhaps they needed that weird state to write that good, who knows? Thanks for sharing your views!:-)

Needless to say I am somewhat articulate. I learned how to speak, read, and write a few languages in the past, but I'm considered to be informative. It depends on how the person's tone represents a great idea expression, as well as the theme beautifully written.

I am actually not a huge fan of writting. I do it if I have to, and lately not because I want to. I think I am quite the articulate one when it comes to speaking, but with writting, I find myself to be very lazy. Not lazy to the point where I replace complete words with letters like "R" instead of "are" or "U" instead of "you", but just the bare minimum, do you know what I mean??

hello kamran ! Initially i used to think this too, that how articulate i am ? But now as i have started interacting with different people,i feel that a beautifully written thought can attarct you initially but in the end the good thought may be written in simple or may be poor way wins:) I belive in thoughts rather the way they are written:) this is an art you know :) u can try to learn it,but some people know how to play with words and for that kamran i will simply appreciate you. You are born with good thoughts and as well good presentation of them as well :) and what else a person need to win people's hearts :) This really matters a lot, good presentation of an average thing can make it a really good one but in the end it varies with person to person . I usually go with the material rather than how its packed :P And i am very bad with writing skills :) usually i have a lot of things in my mind but when i start writing,it seems a a primary clas student has written in a casual way :) My writing dont seem to be of a mature one . Although my writings carry length, once i start writing the ideas just flow in my mind until someone calls me up and broke the chain :) but the way i write must be improved :)

We all need improvement, UBiquitous!:-) Yes, I do understand the difference between communication, beautiful presentation and something being understandable. While simple words may be understandable, they may or may not convey the accurate meaning. I consider beautiful presentation something which not only conveys the accurate meaning in most understandable terms but also in richest possible sense. Beautiful presentation is not about playing with words, simple words can be very beautiful when they are apt and conveying the essence. Like for example, Ghalib's poetry, in his final days, was very simple, yet very, very beautiful, rich and profound. I hope you see from where I am coming!?:-)

Thank you for all your kind words, UBiquitous, you are such a delight!:-) I agree, actual material is much more important than the way it is presented. Still, presentation can beautify the thought itself. It is also very important for communication, as, if one is not able to communicate a good thought; it's of no use other than for the person beholding it. Your writing skills are not bad at all, UBiquitous, you are at least understandable. And, I can see that you have improved a lot already. None is perfect, we all need to improve! Thanks for sharing!:-)

Thanks for appreciating me but still i am in the queue of improving and every other person in this world, the struggle goes on :) umm,yes you are right,a thought should be presented in a way that one should easily understand, but if i am not wrong kamran than, communication and beautiful representation of your thoughts are two different things :) We are talking how you play with words in order to enhance your work and the way they are presented :). Lemme clear you more, If a article is written in a simple way just as a kid has written it,but the thoughts are marvellous you cannot deny with that after reading the whole article and it is understandable too but on the contrary if a mature person rights the same article with less expression of thoughts but in a beautiful manner and with chosen words which attarcts the reader then obviously after reading the first 2 3 lines i wil go towards that artcile rather going towards the old one :) right ? So whts the connection of an understandable and well presented article ?? Both the artciles were undertsandable and i easily got the main idea but i will prefer the one which is written in a more methodical and structured way right ?

For me learning a language is not that easy. I can understand, but when it comes to speaking even though I can get the accent right, I do not know how to say it. Much of learning how to write posts comes from practice and making sure that you avoid the badly written ones. It is the idea that counts, not how it is written, but== and I say but. If you want your ideas to be read, practice your writing skills, because even though it might be relevant, you are wasting your time if nobody understands you.

Hello suspenseful! I agree that understanding a language is easier than speaking. I experience it first hand. You are also right that practice is very important. I realy agree that expressing a great idea is waste of time if one can't make it across. Thanks for sharing:-)
