A lot of voip server so far have not equal the capabilities of asterisk ip pbx server. Asterisk is the most complete feature in terms of sip-based software. It can work on ip-based, telco or traditional based telephone system. You can even let it communicate with several asterisk server to form a larger network to call. It runs on a linux-based operating system .So you are assured its stable and best of all it is an open source . So many programmers contribute ideas to this software to further enhance its feature. If you have questions or suggestions that you want to know about asterisk, feel free to reply to this discussion. Hope we can learn and explore more about this software.

Currently we are setting up an Pbxtra server from fonality.com. We are testing it with a four-port Sangoma card.

Actually you could run asterisk in a windows environment. AsteriskWin32(www.asteriskwin32.com) lets you do so. However, I haven't tested Asterisk yet in a windows environment so I can not recommend using it. I do have 2 production servers here at the center that runs asterisk. Both of them are running on Linux(Fedora Core 5 and Debian Etch). So far, I haven't encountered any major problem on my installations.
