do your kids have a bedtime? How old are they? Do they fight you on it? What made you decide on the bedtime?

My children are 10, 9, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1 We put them to bed at 8:00 on school nights and 9:00 during the summer break. I still want them to have some quiet time to unwind and read before going to sleep =)

Seven children, wow! I would suppose with that many you have to be a little bit more rigid with the rules if you are to have any peace & quiet.

my kids are 7, 4, and 23 mos. my 7 yrs. old is going to be in 3rd grade, his bedtime is 9pm. b/c of sports, and he wakes up at 7 so that's 10 hrs. of sleep! football they end practice a 7 so i let him stay up to shower, and do wutever he has to do, sometimes he has to finish homework or sometimes he has to eat after football practice. baseball some games start at 7:30 and don't end til 9 so those games suck cause he goes to bed later, but i make him nap after school! my younger ones don't have a bed time so they can sleep in, it gives me a chance to do more in the morning or sleep in myself!

When we moved to USA last year I had him in a good routine from bedtime around 7.30-8pm. After I hurt my lower back for three straight months, it changed drastically. I got it back to 8.30pm but my hubby and I had a disagreement about his bedtimes and said I was being too strict (go figure) so it so happens 9pm is his bedtime. I am trying to put it early to bed now that my hubby is away from 8-8.30pm because he is going to Kindergarten for the first time in Sept, and he needs all the rest he can get, so he gets up early for school.

Ya, I have decided 10pm for them. One who is 4 yrs has to get up at 6.oo am as he has to get ready at 7 am for school. If they are not made to sleep till 10,he cries and is too lazy to get up in the morning. The elder daughter who is 8 yrs has afternoon shift and so she gets a little concession. But then the younger one fights that tell her to sleep or I won't sleep alone. sometimes both of them force us to come to bed and say that is the condition for their going to sleep. My God....very tough job.

My little man is only four months old and he goes to bed by 7:30 everynight. He cried the first few times I put him down that early but now he cries if I don't get him in bed on time! We're planned on keeping that bedtime at least for the next couple years. My parents used to do the same thing to me. I was in bed by 7 every night until I was 5. And I think it was a good thing. It gave me good sleep habits. Plus there's the added bonus of getting some time alone with my hubby after the baby goes to bed.

My youngest depends on whether he takes two naps or just one. He's 10 months old, and it seems like he will be dropping his second nap permenently here soon. WHen he does take a second nap, he goes down at 7:30 p.m. if he doesn't he goes to sleep at 7:00 p.m. He's so tired by then, it made more sense than having another late nap. Besides, his big brother goes to bed at 8:00 p.m. He is almost 3. He goes to bed then because he's an early riser (by choice) so he needs to go to bed earlier to get enough rest. He usually doesn't take a nap anymore. *sigh* (:

My son always had a fairly early bedtime, he did not object. He played many sports, and was very active when not playing sports. Bedtime with him was not really a problem, he was tired and he knew it. I think he was going in bed at 9 PM pretty much until he was a sophmore in HS, then went to bed by 10 PM, until he found girls and cell phones and free minutes after 9. BTW - bedtimes only held true on non-practice, non-game school nights. Since hockey often resulted in getting out of bed at 4 AM sometimes, 7 or 8 PM was not unheard of through middle school.

My eldest is now an adult, my daughter is 14, and the little guy just turned 5. I've never been really firm about bedtimes. They always had a bedtime routine, which I found helped wind them down for bed. My partner works late, and it's very important to me that we always have dinner as a family. With dinner often being served around 8pm, bedtime isn't likely to happen until around 11 or even later sometimes. My youngest is home schooled so he is still able to get a full night's rest & it works for us.Everyone in my family seems to be night owls too & even before my partner had a job that went so late, we just naturally fell into a later pattern.

When they are in school my 5 year old goes to bed between 7:30 and 8:00pm and my 13 year old about 10 pm! When school is on holiday I do let these times slide a bit cos they can sleep later in the morning! I decided on these times because I am a firm believer that children need enough sleep and I did not want my kids to be tired and not concentrating at school plus I like some peace in the evenings! lol If my kids are looking or acting particularly tired on a day they go to bed earlier to catch up on sleep - and of course they sometimes fight me on this but I think cos they know I let them stay up later when they don't have to get up early trhey don't fight as hard as they might! xxx

My kids are 18, 16, 13 and 7. The 7 yr old is really the only one who has a bedtime. It is 8pm during the school year. In the summer it is 9, but sometimes we don't make it in by then. She really doesn't fight about it. The other night she had a friend stay over night. I picked them up from the girls house at 9:30pm and when we got home the friend said, 'lets play dance revolution'. My daughter said, 'It's 9:40, I have to go to bed!' I thought this was so funny. They got their jammies on, brushed their teeth and layed in bed watching tv. The next day my daughter couldn't understand why her friend wanted to play so late at night:)

Our son is 16 months old and he goes to bed at about 8pm. He kinda chose it for us. I feel that all children need a bedtime, that way they learn a normal schedule of sorts. I can't understand how people can let their children stay up all night and not care; especially on a school night. When our little guy gets older, he will still have a bedtime. Of course as he gets older it will change with his age.

I have a total of 3 kids ages 10, 4, and 3. My stepson who is 10 can stay up as late as he wants during the summer. Then during school he is bed by 9pm, unless there is a tv show coming on that he wants to watch. Then I will let him stay up until 10pm. But no later than that. Now my 4 and 3 year olds have a much earlier bed time year round. Thier bedtime is 8pm unless they have been bad that day. Then they go to bed at 7pm. There have been a few times I have let them stay up until 9pm because they were extra good that day. But that isn't very often. My 4 year old is going to be starting prek in August and I plan on keeping the 8pm bedtime until he gets into 1st grade. Then I will increase it to 9pm like his step-brother.

My 16 and 13 yr old go to bed when they want during the summer time. During school there bedtime is 10pm. My 2 yr old and 10 mth old I try to have in bed by 9pm, but sometimes it is 10pm depending on when they took their naps. My 2 yr old is the only one that fights us on going to bed. He would stay up all night if you allowed him to.

Yes, our little daughter does not like to go to bed even when she is tired. It used to be that she would go to bed at 10 PM but I just couldn't handle trying to watch her and do anything that I want to do. So, I moved her bedtime to 8 PM. She still doesn't like it at all but she is learning to obey mom somehow and welcomes bedtime now somewhat.

My fiance's son is a teenager. His mother used to put unreasonably early bedtime restrictions on him, but when he stays with us, he can go to bed when he wants. It's not like he has to get up for school when he's out here... even if he did, we would still be reasonable. You don't send a 16 year old to bed at 8 PM!!!

Yes, I have a 7 year old and her bedtime is 8.00 and sleep by 8.30...It is world war 3 every night, but we get there eventually..I think because she is like me (a night owl)...
