Does anyone know a fix for slow computer? I thought I found one but after a while it goes back to being slow. Also I found a fix for registry errors but they still keep coming back. I started with over 800, but thankfully it is now down to about 120. Does anyone know of a lasting fix...that is short of getting a new computer. This one is just about 3 years old.

As far as it goes, free things don't give you that satisfaction you need , especially when that thing is of importance; just like the saying goes : 'you get what you pay for' . So don't expect to get thesame benefits as those who pay for something you want to use fore free.

If you don't feel right about getting a key to register "registry mechanic" then I would go ahead and just buy it. It is very good. IMHO

Very good point. I have tried some of those free programs...some of the registry cleaners will only fix 20 problems, for full repair you will have purchase the product outright.

hii LCecelia, i too faced this problem 2-3 months back.my system is only 2 years old.and i don't think that this matters at all.my friend's system is more than 6 years old and that too with a pentium-3 processor.but it runs that fast that you will be surprised. the problem is not with new or old system, actually its how you maintain the thing you have.so i would suggest you to maintain your pc.then it will give you good results.apart from this you can also upgrade it.you can increase your har drive space or memory. here i would suggest you something to try out. 1. install your operating system again.if you don't then also no problems.delete those programs which are no longer in use or not used that frequently.sometimes installing lot of programs decreases system performance. 2.then use a good antivirus ,antispyware along with a firewall as you use internet most often.that will prevent the risk of virus and spyware.i would recommend "ZONE ALARM SECURITY SUITE".i am using it currently.you can get it from: www.download.com just give the name in search bar. 3.run your disk defragmentor at least once in a week.ot will free up your disk space. 4.then the ccleaner program to clean cache,junk/temporary internet files and history.you can also repair your registry by this program.but i would suggest another program that i use.it has lots of features in it like disk cleaning, registry repair and it can prevent unwanted programs from running at the background.you can check what progrmas you want to run.its called " TUNEUP UTILITIES". you can get it from the above mentioned site.but you have to provide a license for that.you can use its trial version for 30 days. i would say that you should keep your pc clean as you are using internet most of the time.using that leads to many pc problems.but you can always prevent them.you have so many options there. i hope it helps you and best of luck.

You are so right...if you want anything to give you your money's worth, you will have to take care of it. I try with my computer but I guess that just running the ccleaner every day and the spyware and virus software once per week was not enough based on the number of hours per week I spend on the internet. I came across the "tuneup utilities" recently. I will go back and investigate it.

Without reading your entire discussion for biggest thing I see people do with their computers that slows them down is to allow far too many tasks to load up during the boot and run all the time. I suggest you go through and remove IM programs and other things that are showing up in the lower right by the clock. You might want to do a control-alt delete to bring up the windows task manager and see what of the processes on your PC are taking up CPU cycles. You said you had 800 registry errors and that is down to 120? This should be zero. If there are registry problems then utilities like registry mechanic should be able to get rid of them all. If problems are coming back after being fixed then something you are running is doing harm to your PC and should be avoided. I love my PCs. They are clean and mean (for what they have under the hood so to speak).

Many of the software that were recommended here will only fix 20 errors on the free/trial version and to purchase them is more than I can spare at the moment. :-( I've left 2 programs on right now: ccleaner and one called Registry Fix (I think...I'm not at home right now so can't check). When I ran ccleaner the first time it found I think 90 something errors which it fixed. I ran it again several times and it did not find any more errors. I re-ran it after working on the computer for 30 minutes to an hour and still no errors. When I ran the other software it found over 100 errors. I had the program fix the errors but even when I ran it immediately after the fix more errors come up. So now my question is, how do I know which one is correct? (I have gone through and removed a number of programs and also deleted their shortcut icons from my desktop. I've notice only a slight improvement in performance.)

The computer as a tool is needing regular care. Defragging is automatic on mine however many must tell their machine to do this function. Also deleting cookies and temp files regularly will improve things. There are many tweaks and updates and things you must regularly do like driving a car. You must do maintenance. Depending on your type of computer and operating sytem, develop the methods to do on a regular basis and you will be computing easier. Good luck with this.

Aside from saving for a new computer, you can upgrade. Put in a large hard drive, put in a new mother board, go through your programs and delete what you never will use or use rarely. Clean out your cache every hour or so, not just when it is full. Clean your history file if you do not need it. Go to Black Vipers at http://www.blackviper.com/ There is a list of background programs that Windows puts on your computer and it tells you what ones you can get rid of.

Its most likly not a problem with your registry that is making it slow. The number one reason I have seen for a slow computer is to many processes running at one time. The easiest way to fix this is go to start run then type msconfig. Go to the startup tab and uncheck everything that isn't nessesary for computer boot up. For instance MS office has processes that can start with a machine but why have the processes running when they just start up when you open the app anyway. You can also look at the services tab but mess with the start up first.

I have had other myLotters complain of problems with the PM system. I am going to assume that there is a problem in that area which is preventing us from connecting. I didn't get any messages from you Lorna. I have high hopes that the health of your system is improved and I look forward to hearing from you. If myLot can not get the messages through perhaps we should go back to sbcglobal.net and Yahoo in order to get messages through. As for this message I am going to go ahead an make a new response so that you get an email notifying you that it exists. BTW did you get two private messages from me about this here? I am showing two in my records that were sent. I will copy them and paste them into an email. May the day smile on you Lorna.

the best and cheap way to increase the overall proformance is to add more memory (ram) opening and closing programs will be quicker and the pc will have a quicker reaction to whatever you do, if you have spyware you will see a big benefit by removing it all using software like adaware, make sure you have a firewall turned on for extra security and remove any unwanted programs along with icons on the desktop as they tend to make the pc run slower

the best thing you have to do is upgrade your PC, and format it, if your pc is infected with viruses, you should format it now, but first, you have to back up your files first.

Delete all unnecessary programs and files, then empty your recycle bin. You should also delete cookies regularly. You can also try defragmenting your hard disk.

IF you want a permanent solution, please format your PC. Before formating remove all partitions, repartition with FDisk or other program and then format in DOS mode and then you go for installing the Windows operating system afresh on C drive. You better go for two OS, another on D drive (may be one is Windows 2000, the other one XP. And if you frequently operate the D drive OS, your system will run long. It's because all the virus or primary error occurs mainly on C drive. So put the OS in C drive as dummy, operate on D drive. After installing OS, install good antivirus, I use Norton. Defragment your PC every weak atleast. Always use registry cleaner as CCleaner to delete unnecessary files. Keep power backup. Never shutdown system abruptly. I think this much will give you a stable OS

There are 3 factors that slows computer performance: Fragmented partition, Cluttered Registry and Cluttered Hard Disk. There are 3 recommend freewares can fix these problems: 1.)CCleaner (www.ccleaner.com) - cleans PC from cluttered hard disks 2.)RegCleaner (www.regcleaner.com) - Cleans Registry from unused and cluttered registry. 3.)Auslogic Defrag (www.auslogic.com) - A 3 party defragmentation software that defragments better and faster than the regular defrag tool.

Hi, First, I'm sure a lot of the others have told you to clean out the cache regularly, run defrag, etc. Did you install Spybot and AdAware to seek out/destroy spyware garbage? (Those are free and you can download off the web.) Also here is a nice page you can read that is just about slow performance issues. The link is: tech.yahoo.com/gd/10-fast-fixes-for-nagging-pc-problems/201425. Good luck!

i think if your computer comes slow it can have many reasons maybe you must check your antivirus or scan your computer with the newest anti virus updater because it's posible your computer has infected by virus, or you can try to defragmented your computer because maybe your data in your computer need to re aranged..

The basic reasons for a slow computer are usually A bunch of viruses , wondering around in ur Hard disk Secondly overloaded hard disks with very less free space... Viruses cause registery problems and extra time loading programs....The best anti virus software I have tried is the AOL free anti virus www.aol.com go there and search for it....hope this helps

Thanks for your input. That was my first thought when this began happening. However I've ran my spyware and virus software a lot more since I've begun experiencing these problems and neither have found anything. I found a site that gave in detail instructions on going through and "servicing" your computer. That was how I found that the problem could be in the registry. :-(

Is the computer 3 years old? or have you had it for 3 years? If its 3 years old, just run windows updates, clear internet history, Unistall programs and windows components not being used.
