I am listening to Nights In White Satin and for me I find it very sad, enchanting and a beautiful sad song, I play music according to my moods What is your saddest song that guarantees to have you in tears or feel sombre, melancholy or feel like crawling into bed and curling up with a cushion, teddy bear or loved one? Another song is The Power Of Love by Frankie Goes To Hollywood Try listening to them with all the lights out, it makes the songs more poignant and gives it a greater effect!

Russians - Red Square by night - one of my favourite places in the world
Well it's not really a sad song, but the one that always brings tears to my eyes is "Russians" by Sting. There is something really evocative in his arrangement, with the bells from St. Basil's Cathedral ringing in the end of the song. If I close my eyes I can imagine myself back there with the snow gently falling around me. It makes me think of my late Mother, and all the family I don't see so often, and it always makes me cry.

Thank you for sharing my friend, doesn't have to be always a sad song, songs can trigger off past events, people we held so dear and close. Yes if you close your eyes you can envisualize them with the help of music.

Oh for me there's two both are related to people I've loved and lost, one reminds me of my father - not sure why and it's a little known song by Prince, back in the days when he was Prince and not 'symbol' and it's called 'Sometimes it snows in April' - never fails to bring a tear. The next is the cover that Puff Daddy or P Diddy did (I think)and that's 'I'll be missing you' Both reduce me to floods of tears without fail.. Nights in White Satin bring back some good memories for me from when I was a teenager, it's strange how you hear a song and it takes you back to a time or reminds you of a place - Great discussion topic

There are two songs that are equally sad to me. And, I don't know the name of either. One is about a couple, and by the end of the song they are in the same hospital on different floors. It's so sad because they die apart. Then, there's one that Reba McIntire sings about her dad and how she misses after he's gone. They both make me cry a lot.

The saddest song to me is the song of life, lyrics and music written and sung by myself. It is up to me now how sad and sombre I want the song to be. I just lost a friend to cancer.

The saddest song for me is "Grandpa" by The Judds. We used to listen to that song as children, mostly with my grandparents. The Judds were one of their favorite groups. I used to sit up late at night with my grandparents telling me about the "good ole days." They had so many interesting stories. We could sit there for hours and hours, night after night, listening to great stories that would make you laugh, cry, put you in awe. it was great and I miss them terribly.

Grr what a miserable depressing discussion you've started hun! LOL Just kidding. There are a few songs which are guaranteed to make me boo like a baby, the main one is Careless Whisper by George Michael - I was a teenager when this first came out and it reminds me of how much pain I was in after splitting up with a boy, except I was only with him for a few months and when I think about him now I just chuckle at how innocent our relationship was. It wasn't a real relationship by any means but at that age it was the world to me. I guess the song just reminds me of a more innocent time in my life when everything was black and white and a broken relationship with a good for nothing fella was the be all and end all of life's problems. Now there are far more important things to consider, such as: health, mortgage, paying the bills, parents getting older, etc. *sigh* Lovely to remember stuff like that sometimes, I will go home and listen to Careless Whisper tonight. xx

There are so many songs that make me cry. The old song (one older than I am) is Danny Boy. Newer ones are The Dance and then one that was new 23 years ago that makes me cry is He Stopped Loving Her Today by George Jones. Several of Jim Croece songs also makes rears flow.

There are many songs that get me to tear up from time to time but there hare two songs that get me to every time I hear them. One that has made me tear up since I was 15 years old and that is Desperado by the Eagles. While it may not be the saddest song I hear it that way because a friend used to sing it to me all the time. The other is the song What might have been by little Texas. Such a sad song about a lost love. The first time I saw the video I thought it was a bit corny but when it got to the end I had chills.

"Nights in white satin" is an excellent song as a matter of fact I like alot of Moody Blues songs. But I would have to say I like "Your song" by Three Dog Night, and "Last Kiss" by J. Frank Wilson And The Cavaliers, although the Pearl Jam version is good too!

I love the song Come What May and Two Less Lonely People In The World. Both are sung by Air SUpply. They bring tears to my eyes not becoz they are sad songs but its becoz they remind me of a very special person. Someone who is so special to my heart but I had lost several months ago.
