Veterans Being Denied Benefits

The featured topic on abc's Nightline tonight will cover the story of how veterans who have returned home from fighting the war in Iraq are being treated. Many say that they are being denied benefits based on the flimsy excuse that their conditions were preexistent to going to Iraq. Why then, you might ask, would they have been sent into battle with an existing personality disorder? The reporter will be Bob Woodruff, who was nearly killed by an IED explosion while covering the war over there. Our government really needs to get it's act together if you ask me.

I think it is disgusting if a person has risked their life to defend their country and when they are too sick or unable to do so any more their country sauirms and churns out excuses to avoid helping these people! To turn their back on the very people they depend on for their security and freedom in my opinion. makes a government unfit to be in power! xx

I do sooo agree with you, mummymo. If our government can't take care of it's own after they've been in battle, who will?

Oh for crying out loud...that is so asinine! From what I understand no man or woman can go into any military service if they have some pre-existing condition...Even for the silliest things...My father for instance wanted to be involved in the Korean War but couldn't do active duty and was instead sent to Germany to fulfill his "Tour of Duty"--why? He was classified as 4-F due to his flat feet condition!! I think the veterans coming home have a lot more serious conditions to contend with, and not just medically but especially emotionally--It's the same old story--Vietnam vets weren't treated any better..and especially the ones exposed to agent orange

And they keep saying that it's the Liberals who want to turn this war into another Viet Nam! None of this makes any sense, pyewacket. I have known of men who were turned down for the army for the same reason. The government just doesn't want to give credit where it is due. I, for one, will be sending my congressman an e-mail about their attempt to weasel out on these soldiers who have risked their lives in service to our country.

It is so easy for this government (or any government when you think of it) to ask it's young people fight in its wars, sacrifice their lives, and then turn their backs when they come home and need help

The Governments want to severely get their Acts together they are sending these Men and Women over there and they do not know at the time if they will return they see things that we can not imagine and it is the things they see and the Fear for their Life's that gives them a Mental disorder and I have seen Friends that have come back from there and had to have counsellings, so I would say after that they should be entitled to Benefits

I think it is rediculous also that many soldiers have to fight for benefits from the government after they did their duty and served our country. I think the governemnt and the whole world is messed up these days and I cannot see any changes for the better coming soon at all.

It seems like the world becomes more crooked every day, stephcjh. If I didn't have a firm faith foundation, I think I would just give up.

The same thing goes for me also. I trust the lord will take care of me and keep me safe. If I did not have faith in the lord, I would have left the world a long time ago from all of the stress I am under every day.

Thats terrible. Thats no way to treat our soldiers and our government should be ashamed of themselves. Veterans should definitely get the benefits they deserved. They have earned it by defending out country. That they would deny them benefits makes me angry. They do not deserved to be treated that way. FYI: This is my 500th post! Yeah!

I agree Aurone. The people of this nation need to get up off their butts and demand that the government be held accountable. This is the worst administration I have ever lived through,(and I've been through quite a few). This scandal is just one more to heap onto the pile that is steadily growing. Congrats on your 500th!
