what are your opinion on the rating system on myLot? Would it be better to have

a block feature? Personally i think the rating system here is gods gift to the kindergarden, for kids to play with. Fair enough if you use it in a possitive way, but if you use it negatively to get back at somebody? Also i think it is all about a popularity contest, do you agree? Does a high rating really make you a better person? I dont think so

They should get rid of it altogether. Having a 10 doesn't mean you are a better person than one who has a 2 - no way. I respect your views just as much as mine. Some people are really good when it comes to debating hot topics and have strong point of views. They are the ones that get penalised the most because their views may not necessarily agree with the poster or whoever started the discussion. That doesn't mean one should give them a negative rating because of it. They should get a positive one because they answered the discussion and gave their view in a different way or perspective.
Its totally being abused at the moment and people are rating others negatively because one persons point of view does not agree with others. It's stupid, and they should just take the whole thing away and don't replace it with anything.
I would like to see a block feature, that would be more sensible to have than this rating system.

I never bothered about the rating system.By simply seeing the rating of a person,we cannot say that,they are always posting good discussion.I only consider the discussion only.If i can answer the discusion i reply for it.

That is exactly how I feel about it. I think this rating system is the for the the abusers to abuse. As when you first seem to be pissing somebody of, you had it. I had another account on here with a pretty high rating within a few weeks. Then I unintentionally upset somebody by having fun in a discussion and within a few days my ratings had dropped from 9 to 2. I will go for a block feature anytime.

i think it is fair enough, though one can always ask for more improvements.
The rating does not necessarily indicate the qualities or personalities of a person.
What it definitely indicate is that the person with higher rating has shown a good, atleast on mylot, so that he had attracted other mylot users to rate a +ve to him/her. I mean to say that a person with high rating has generally taken due care to post discussions and responses in a responsible manner.

i agree with you. each individual has his/her opinion which must be respected by others.
By responsible, I do not mean that we have to agree with what the discussion host has put forth.
There is every chance that people would differ in opinions, and that opinion could be exactly opposite to what the host has.
By responsible, I mean that expressing one's opinion without being unnecessarily harsh/abusive to the host or other mylotter.

I see , and that can be a very fine line, as members here is from all over the world, so you do not only have the differenses in the sexes, age, religion but also in culture. Well spose we can only do the best to our ability and hope it will not upset and offend others too much.

And what is a responsible manner ranje? To agree with the poster? Aint we all allowed to have an oppinion no matter what? Wether we agree or disagree with the poster, this is a discussion site, and you cannot have a discussion if we all have the same opinion. Just a thought! Anyway thanks for your response, im glad we are not all of the same opinion on this matter. :)
