Do you shampoo your cat like we do for dogs?

I had a dog that needed a shampoo every 15 days, but I was wondering - do you have to shampoo your cat?

You don't have to bathe cats however you can if you'd like to or if you or they suffer from allergies. Cats don't like to be put in water at all! So I use two different things, one is a dry shampoo that is a powder that you put on the cat and then brush the cat. And sometimes I use a foam shampoo that does not need to be rinsed out, just dried with a towel. I bathe her once a month.

That is nice - dry shampoo, I think my dog also would have loved that - he did not like getting wet.

They make it for dogs and cats, you might want to try it. And they leave a nice baby powder scent too! I think it's a lot easier than having to get them (and me) wet and then having to dry them too. This way you simply brush the powder off of it's fur and you're done.

i don't thinck that.this is something i hardly do without shampoo it becouse she is a verry craizy cat and she doesn't love water and she bite and she try to escape...so i only wash here with water...she clean herself and i thinck that she doesn't need any shampoo.

My cats are indoor only and they never need a bath. Only once when 1 of them went to the vet and had an accident in his carrier, then he needed a bath.

I used to wash my dog with water as well as shampoo him because only water was not sufficient to clean him.

Dear dbhattji, I will take my 4 dogs and wash them with plain water in case I feel they have bad small on their body. Only once I used toilet soap to wash all of them that too recently because our city was flood with rain. The water was muddy. My dogs used to roam on the muddy water. Therefore I had to do this. Otherwise, I do not wash them regularly.

I am glad to hear that you have adopted these dogs and take such good care of them.

Its probably not a good idea..Bathing cats is not very common. They clean themselves with their tongues.

hmm i never bathe my cats, they are one of the most clean pets one could ever had. they can manage to clean themselves without our help. They wash their own fur if you don't know that yet.. just by liking their tongue on to it. but again, I'm not an expert here, maybe a lot of others too wash and shampoo their cats..

Unless your cat has gotten into someting excessively dirty, it is not a good idea to bathe her or him. Bathing a cat will dry out the cats skin and remove nessecary, natural oils.

basically, cats need not to be bathe, they can clean themselves and managae to smell good. but for us, we shampoo our cats every 2 months just to make sure their coat remains fluffy, soft and shiny...

I wouldn't ever clean a cat unless they had maybe got covered in oil somehow or some sort of product that might irritate their skin. You can also bathe your cats if you are trying to prevent fleas and would like to use a healthy alternative to injections or drops and decide to use instead flea shampoo. Otherwise cats don't need bathing at all, they clean themselves all the time.
