That was so gross...my McDonald's drive-thru experience

I was so hungry after grocery shopping that I decided to get drive thru instead of starving for the half hour drive home. I ordered my food, paid, and was just sitting at the window waiting for it. I looked in at one of the workers just as he wiped his nose with his bare hand! Then he put all my food in the bag with that same hand and handed the bag over to be given to me! Don't they teach their workers about hand washing!? How hard is it to at least use a tissue and/or avoid touching anything with that hand? I understand that they are a fast food place and they can't have their employees taking the time to wash their hands every five minutes but this was beyond disgusting. I'm pretty sure I won't be going back there again!

Did you at least call him on it? I'd have insisted on talking to the manager and getting a new meal! Restaurants spread disease like that!

Yeah I did and they all looked at me like I was a nut case! They did rudely replace my order but I never saw that particular worker go wash his hands anywhere. At least he didn't touch my new order though.

It was gross. I didn't even touch the bag when they tried to hand it to me.

Okay...that's gross! I wouldn't have wanted to take the food then! Hubby was at Arby's last week and one employee was making sandwiches, handling the meat, without wearing gloves like they are supposed to! That got him upset for sure and he decided he was going to call the Health department. You can always make a complaint like that.

Unfortunately, they can teach them, but they can't stand over them to make sure that they do it all of the time. I know that they have certain guidelines that they are supposed to follow, but I also know that they don't always follow them. You are right, that is disgusting.

By the way, there is an 800 number on their website, and I think there might be one on their receipts too where you can call to give your opinion of experiences like this. You might want to let them know when you come across a problem like this. Either this or at least be sure that the manager is aware of the problem. Otherwise this employee will continue this behavior if nobody corrects it.

You are right that they can't stand over them all the time to make sure they are doing what they're supposed to. To me it's just common sense though lol. I wouldn't wipe my nose on my hand and touch my own food much less someone elses. I hadn't thought of the 800 number too. That's probably a really good idea. I'll have to look for that. Thanks!

Eew, i wouldn't have taken it & said told him how much of a feral he was & that i want him to take it back & get me a new one. I think they make their workers wear gloves here in Oz, thankfully but still, you can still wipe your nose with your glove. They should be make to wash their hands routinely &/or change gloves every 1/2 hour. I'm not a big Macca's fan anyway so i don't have that problem but still it's eeeew & you should have demanded a re-make.

I did but they were rather rude about it. I never saw them make him wash his hands but he didn't touch my new order either.

That is gross. My daughter runs a McDs and she would have a fit if one of her workers did that. They are told to wash there hands all the time. They could make you so sick doing things like that. I hope you told the boss what happened. They really should know.
