Do your cleaning habits change during the summer?

Do you let your house cleaning lapse more in the summer time? Are you a cleaning fanatic? Does your house have to be cleaned every day? Once a week? Once a month? Is cleaning your top priority? I hate cleaning. I think I do less cleaning in the summer because the kids are home and there is just no keeping up with the messes. Because we have a swimming pool, grass is always being tracked into the house. Dirty bare feet walk across wet floors. I must say that the floors and carpets are not my responsibility. My husband vacuums and washes because of my chronic illness. But because of all those tracks on my hall floor, I find myself sweeping and swiffering more than ever now. That is just because it bugs me. I am not one to keep my house immaculate. If anyone drops in unexpectedly than they take me as I am. I never claimed to be Martha Stewart. My kids dirty dishes every 1/2 hour. I'm not washing dishes all day long. I really hate house cleaning and leave it until we are expecting people, or until I can't stand the mess myself and have to do something about it. What about you?

I use to be a cleaning fanatic when we first moved into our apartment or shall I say when we first arrived in the USA last year. Everyday was cleaning day for me and I overdid it and hurt my lower back. Ever since then I clean when I feel like, or when I'm in the mood - that is probably one day out of the week LOL I do spot checks and quick tidy ups during the week and whatever day I feel like it, I will do a thorough clean. Mondays is my washing day mostly sheets and towels. Right now I have stacks of clothes to fold and iron (which I hate doing) and there are dishes in the sink that still need to be rinsed and stacked into the dishwasher. Since its just my son and I, I haven't done much cooking at all besides making simple easy meals and still haven't gotten around to getting our carpet cleaned. The last time I did that was right before christmas.

My cooking really lapses in the summer because of the girls' soccer games. Their schedule messes up the dinner schedule and sometimes I just don't bother. When you mean getting your carpet cleaned, do you mean vacuumed or actually cleaned? I can't remember the last time carpets were cleaned in this house. Probably when a mess was made and we have a home carpet cleaner. I couldn't even tell you where it is right now! LOL!

Actual clean. I hired the rug doctor last time and did it myself (way cheaper) and the reason being was because my two men in my life create stains and don't tell me about it. As soon as I feel like doing one of my spring cleaning days, GRRR I keep finding them!!! Our landlord is not going to like her semi red/brown/black/yellow carpet LOL

I don't have any kids at home, but I understand what you mean, constantly having messes. My husband is hard enough for me to pick up after anymore. I don't feel my cleaning habits change with the seasons, today I cleaned my living room walls and it was really hot in the house. I don't do that very often and probably should've done it in the cooler months, but I just felt it needed to be done, and that's how I am I guess. I think I hate doing dishes, but then realize it only takes about 10 minutes and is just plain tedious. The longer I blow them off, the longer it takes to do them. I'm not immaculate, but I also hate a dirty house, whether I get guests or not.

I know. The longer I wait to do dishes the more dishes there are to do. But I don't want to be washing dishes all the time. I try to get the kids to use the same glass every time they get a drink but they just don't get it. *sigh*

Due to more outside activity my floors stay dirt. Having to cut the grass more often, grass and dirt is always getting brought in by my husband. No matter how much he dust off his shoe he still trace something into the house. If I could just get him to take off his shoe it would help. I wish that we all had some kind of self-cleaning house. Would that not be awesome.

LOL! We have self-cleaning ovens, self-cleaning irons, why not self-cleaning houses? I think they are called maids. Thanks for your response.

Yup, my house is definitely more cluttered and less clean in the summer months. My children are home from school and here most of the day, which definitely means more clutter! Hubby and I are busy doing yardwork, caring for the swimming pool and trying to arrange weekend trips and etc. ...so less time is spent cleaning. Being a college professor, I feel like my summer months are 'mine' and I hate 'wasting' them by cleaning! Sad state of mind I know, but that is the hard truth of the matter! Ha!

No, I don't think my cleaning habits change too much during the summer. I just do other things I don't normally do in the winter. For instance, I would probably clean the windows more often or wash the car more often. In terms of indoor washing, it stays more or less the same, or maybe slightly less because of all the other things I start to do in the summer.

My husband is the cleaning freak. I clean houses all day long and the last thing I want to do when I get home is to clean again! We share the duties on the weekend, unless it is my weekend to work.

God knows my cleaning habits are poor and remain poor throughout the year! It's as simple as that. I just can't get myself to organize stuff because as soon as I'd start doing it, I'd feel there's probably something more important to do than this and I should stop this. BIG problem with me!

Usually I don't clean as much or as regularly in the summer just because its so freaking hot that when I try to clean something like normal, I get way over heated and it just doesn't work that well. I am somewhat of a neat freak, I like a clean house. So its hard for me to let things slide a bit in the summer, but I sometimes just need to.

Mine definitely do. I use to be a neat/clean freak when I first got married but I have become more laid back as the years have gone by. My house needs a really good cleaning right now but our second floor is so hot that I keep putting it off. I think I'll get my daughter to give me a hand and I'll do it one day this week. I think because summertime we relax more. We stay up late and sleep in that I just don't feel like it. So don't worry you are not the only one.

I like to keep a clean house. I hate clutter and mess everywhere. I'd actually have to say that I"m more lazy in winter! Simply because I can't seem to be able to get myself off the couch and out of my dressing gown and slippers. It's not difficult for me to keep the house clean as it's only 2 of us here. I think you need to get a dishwasher!

I'm currently here in Bahrain which is located here in the middle east, so obviously there's no touch of snow here. It would be so nice if we do have snow here, but anyway the weather now here is better than last month. It is colder now and a bit pleasant unlike months ago it was very hot and very humid which made me not wanting to go out.
