How do you feel about movies with a lot of deleted scenes?

On vacation, the movie "Sin City" popped up. I was surprised that most of my friends hated the movie and my sisters didn't watch it because of terrible reviews. On the other hand, having watched it in the US, I really thought Sin City was a good movie. Apparently, in the country where I went to, the national censors heard that Sin City was based on a comic book, decided to make the movie PG13 to accommodate youngsters and cut out a lot of scenes...most of which were essential to building the mood of the movie. In effect, a lot of adults found it to be "corny". The movie channels also slice up scenes from Transporter 2, Vertical Limit and such that the viewer would find the movie literally jumping from one scene to another without continuity. So what do you think about such deletion of movie scenes? Do you think they are necessary? Are there any alternatives to such form of censorship?
