My nieces love cops, and I am glad!

My nieces (ages 4 and 6) love police officers. I taught them myself that cops are good and that they should love them, and they learned that well! They know to call 911 when something bad happens, or hwo to recognize a policeman and his car. My nieces love to wave to all cops they see, and they always smile at them. So...onto a cute story... I was at the gas station with my sister and nieces. A cop was going into the gas stations mini mart just as we pulled up. My nieces were very excited that a cop was here, and they checked out his car for a bit lol. Well, the drivers door was open, and when the cop came back out of the mart they started yelling for him! "POLICEMAN! POLICEMAN!" I saw him kind of glance a couple of times but he couldn't see them. He got to his car and opened his door...my nieces got so loud for their last yell! "POLICEMAN!!!!" He looked directly at our car and my nieces started waving at him from the backseat (I'm laughing in the passenger seat, my sister is laughing while she's filling up the tank). The cop couldn't wave because his hands were full, but he smiled at them. They were so happy! :)

That is such a cute story, but they also need to be careful that it is not someone pretending to be a policeman cause that happens very often and then it could be a bad thing. I teach my child not to trust anybody that they do not know. And the that is the way it is gonna stay. These days you cannot trust anybody or be trusting because you never know if it is real or not. Dialing 911 is great if they need help. This is a good thing without them actually knowing anybody and it is only used in an emergency anyway...

I always emphasize that they hsould only call 911 if they really need help. I tell them that the policemen will be upset if they call them when they don't need to. They know only to dial 911 when they have to. I'm going to start talking to them about how some people mayb pretend to be a policeman when they get a little older, probably pretty soon actually. But one reason i told them how to recognize a police car is because it's harder for people to fake that. So I'll teach them that sometimes people lie about being police officers, but if they see one with a car it's okay. And the only reason I tecah them to recognize police is so if they get lost in public, they'll know who to look for. They don't approach policemen whenever they see them, I let them wave from a distance.

That is great. I agree with you, however, here in my country we have alot of corrupt police men and it is so difficult to teach your children that you should call them for help when you are not even sure that they are not corrupt. But in general it is a good thing and I commend you for teaching them these good things.

Thank you for the words of phriase. Luckily, where I live corrupt cops are almost nonexistant. I'm sorry you have to deal with so many of them =/ I hope one day you can leave a place like that!

I hope your neices never encounter some of the police officers that I have. I've always thought police officers were good, especially when I was younger. I always thought they were there to protect you. To help you. I mean, their motto is to protect and serve. Of course, I'm sure 9 times out of 10 there are good cops more than bad cops, okay it's probably more like 7 times out of 10. But sometimes I think cops do forget that they are there to protect and serve and that you're not the bad guy. I've been in car accidents that were not my fault and had cops not even take 2 seconds to ask "are you ok?" That's a huge deal to me. It's very sweet that they've grown to learn and love cops and I hope they always do and always encounter the good cops :)

I'm sorry that you've encountered bad cops, I'm glad I havent. All the cops I encounter make my nieces laugh and smile so I love them! hehe. Whenever I hear that someone encountered a bad cop I always think it's really bad luck because most cops are good.

Yeah I agree that some places have more corrupt cops because they feel they need to be. High crime areas usually have really tough cops with no personalities. They're use to scum so they treat everyone that way, I understand that. I'm just glad I don't live in a high crime place and that the cops here are good.

well as they say, if it wasn't for bad luck I wouldn't have any luck at all. I don't think it's bad luck though, I just think that some cops take their job too the extreme and know that no one can beat them so they do everything wrong because they can. I also think some places have worse cops than others and being that I live in a place with high crime and things of that sort...our cops aren't the nicest to anyone.

LOL, cute story! That is sweet they are not afraid of them and actualy like them. My girls they just don't think about them. I reckon they are on my block so much, they are just a thing, you know? Now fire fighters, WOW, now you're talking some stuff. Both of my girls freak off firemen, but you know...can ya blame them? LOL, my girls show some taste already.

LOL! I'm almost a big fan of firemen ;P Your nieces do have good taste! lol. I have taught my nieces a little about firemen. But firemen don't really wear all their gear walking around in public so I don't really know how to teach them to recognize firemen without all the gear on. I know they have shirts that say they're firemen, but my nieces wouldn't be able to read thta yet =P But at least they know now if they are ever in a fire they can trust a firemen and won't run from him.

nice to hear that only if police are good enough. Its good that if they are having a positive attitude about police they'll not think twice for calling police if at all any problem arises. In this part of the world it's they are not that kind.I don't they are very rude here and very abusive too if you don't know people higher up in police ranks. So its kind of difficult to find good officers here(but sure there are good officers too who are very few and opposed by many). It's a corrupt world down here.

Aw I'm sorry :( I would hate to live somewhere with more corrupt cops are good. I'm happy I get to live where there are about 0 corrupt cops. And I'm glad my nieces can trust them when they need too.
