Girips , you dont need to be an expert to actually check these things out. Firstly , to know the your processor type along with the other detials download this small application called cpu-z http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php . This will tell you your processor type pentiun II/III . Secondly there are two types of ram used. your ram must be SDRAM since this was used previously . The later ones are called DDR-SDRAM which are used today. The type of RAM you use shall also be indicated by cpu-z Now since you want to upgrade to XP , i suggest you a decent 256Mb ram ,128 would defintely work but would slower the performance. It is not advised if you add another 256Mb stick to your existing ram . It may or may not function properly. Infact microsoft advises to have 2 rams simultaneously if they are manafactured by the same company, THEY ARE OF EQUAL DENSITIES, they have same frequency., but some times a combination of two different sticks of uneqaul MAY work depending on your luck . Now i suggest you to sell (or keep in spare) your current ram and go ahead with a single stick of 256MB SDRAM . Keep in mind that type of ram is important. A ddr ram wouldnt work on sdram motherboards nor vice versa. Coming to the cost , SDRAM is quite costlier than ddr since they are obslelete and gone out of production. You would get a SD 256 RAM for around US $30 depedning on your location. Have you any further doubts please feel free to post here again. BTW, where do you stay ?
