Are you what you have always wanted to be?

I love teaching and I love research, but when I was a kid, I used to dream of becoming a medical doctor. As I was growing, and was learning things, I tend to like other things, or have taken interest in a lot of things. At some point I have found studying behaviour pretty interesting. The wonders of electricity got in the way too, so I also wanted to become an electrical engineer. And I'm sure there were more, I just can't remember every single job fantasy. When I was in my second year in college, I had the chance of helping students with math by tutoring students who thought that math kills them. Seeing the kids growing "in-love" with math is amazing. Through that experience, I have found out that being a teacher is not just about telling students what is and what is not, but rather, most importantly, it is about letting the students discover what they are capable of. After that, I just knew that teaching is the thing for me. :) Do you love what you are doing now?

I'm not what I have always wanted to be, but I am happy with what I am. I always pictured myself living it up, hitting the party scene, dating and having a good time at my age (I'm 26). But I am actually a stay at home mom to five beautiful children. I haven't been out in years, I'm married (so no dating) and my idea of a good time is hitting the internet at 11:00 when all the kids are finally asleep. Although I often wonder what my life would have been like if I had gone down another path, I always come to the conclusion that I wouldn't be nearly as happy and content as I am right now.

you are still so young! i was married at 18 and had 3 kids by your age, so i know exactly how you feel. but, now im 44 and ive gone back to school, (after my last one went to kindergarten) and did what i dreamed of doing. i can honestly say we have plenty of fun now, we don't have anyone left at home, and we are able to enjoy and afford to do the fun things we never got to do before! your time will come, and you will be glad you had your kids early! i used to be so sad looking at all my friends having fun while we were to busy with kids, or to poor to have any fun,..and it went by like the blink of an eye! Just enjoy what you have for the moment., cuz you will never get these times back!

That's very encouraging Ipetges. My Mom married at an early age too, but she made something out of herself. I'm sure anyone can too. :). God bless you. :)

Hey Yamskee. I think you just need some more time with your family and friends, I mean, quality time. Time that you get to, not just talk, but also communicate. That really helps. God bless you. :)

This question comes at a very timely moment for me. I have been struggling with my life, or lack of it. But when you ask if I am what I always wanted to be, the answer would be yes... to an extent. I always wanted to be a mother. I am a mother. Ever since I was a kid that's all I ever really wanted. But it is not all I had expected. I wanted more than two. I didn't know it would be so difficult. And I didn't know marriage would be so hard too. I also always wanted to be a published author, which I have yet to achieve. I have be down about that and stalled at working on it. I should be forging ahead but am in a rut and seem to have lost interest. I know the motivation will return. I hope soon.

Hello Patgalca. :). I'm pretty sure that you'll be able to achieve a lot of things aside from being a mom and a wife. My mom finished her Ph.D in Math when she already have 5 of us, her children, and our youngest brother was already in junior high at that time. Your kids will be as excited as we have been, when you get to achieve something really big for yourself. You'll see. God bless you with strength!

That is great! It sounds like you are a great teacher. I am also in the education world. I taught for 12 years and am now a Vice-Principal. I also love the job and working with the staff and kids. It was not really what I had planned on doing in my life in terms of my first choice...it was actually my second. Being a police officer was my first choice but I was screened out because I am colour blind. I think it actually all worked out for the best. :) cheers,

Hello Golfpro! :). You must be very happy of what you have become now. I am teaching college students. My heart specially goes to students who are really good but do not have the idea that they are just because they don't have the self confidence. Seeing them grow gives me so much satisfaction. :)

I love what I do now very much! I wanted to be a painter ever since I was a kid, and this spring I graduated from art school. My drawing career is picking up, and it's very exciting to see such an old dream come to life. I've also always loved making things, like jewelry, knitting and other handy work: I get to do that on a regular basis and might even make some money on it! I also work in a small, cute café, just like I've wanted to do since I was 16 years old. It's amazing really, most of my dreams seems to have come true. :D

I wanted to be a teacher but I dont know what Im doing here listening to all the problems of subscribers and getting yelled at everyday. I finished professional education and I plan to take special education the problem is when. I keep procrastinating it but I hope I will finally find time. I am already tired with the kind of work I have now but I have no choice.

i could write alot on this one lol... it started out i wanted to be a news reporter, lol then it went to radio host, this is when i was younger, i found out i did'nt have the voice for either...lol, then when i did go to college, i could;nt decide so i took basic courses leaning toward social worker.. i love helping others.. but now im glad i did'nt chose that one, no offense but thats a hard job with everything happening now adays.. so i quit college and moved and started working as an aid for handicapped people that was a very rewarding job... i like working with elderly people alot. until you get attached and they die.. then i get sad... so ive done many other things but my most favorite was a dispatcher for an ambulance serivce that was an awsome job... i really enjoyed it... now im a stay at home mom, still trying to figure out what i want to do with mylife, my hubby works and all , he was just saying how he wished he had went to mechanic school that's what he loved doing... and for me my love is writing either songs or storys, i use to write storys when i was a teen... and i was pretty good... but it's hard to get inspired anymore... so i found mylot.. were i get to write and be with all my friends...

foe now I'm just a student... but like all people I had dreams when I was little... I dreamed to be a worker like my grandfather... now I'm seeing myself in a black hole... I look to the right and nothing... i look to the left and still nothing... I guess I'm just in the process of finding myself and responding to the question "who am I?";)

I think you can still do something about. I know of someone who graduated from medical school. After a few years of practicing medicine, he enrolled at a university to take a degree of what he always wanted. He got his degree in Math a few years after that. It is never too late Lanbei. I think we can always decide to do something about what we really want. God bless you. :)
