Sad news about the cat with kittens.

If you read my post about knowing when a cat is pregnant, here is a sad update. She had her kittens Saturday night. Monday morning I went out to my car to get something and as I was getting ready to go in the cat brought me the head of one of her kittens. Evidently either a tomcat or other animal found them. I don't know if she was able to save any of them. The kitten head was so sweet looking just like it's mom and I feel sad for her because I know she feels the loss.

I feel so sorry you. That is so sad. I also went back and read your other post. I feed several strays here and have three cats of my own that were stray but were able to neuter and keep. It is so terrible for the mom, she must be suffering. I hope you can give her lots of loving during this difficult time. My thought are with you... Vicki

even though she is a stray if I had the money I would get her spayed. I think she brought it to me because she thought I could help it. Unfortunately I could only put it in a plastic bag and dispose of it.

It is so expensive to get them fix! How we do it here is that if we can keep it happy in the house for at least 24 hours we call up the vet. They can't eat or drink after midnight before surgery. We has verile cats around that really can't be around people so if one is tame enough he may become a member of our family. The vet here knows what we are doing and does it at a discounted rate which makes it easier. Some that we neutered didn't end up staying as a part of the family but at least it helps cut down stray kittens, if only by a little. I am lucky to be in a small area and have a great vet who wants to help these animals too. Vicki

That's a shame. As far as I know, many of the pet shelters spay cats for free so it might be an idea handing her in. I think it might be better to do that in the long run so it doesn't keep happening. I think there are some that never put animals down so perhaps you could do some research in your area. Although I suppose you cannot do this at the moment as she may still have kittens somewhere.

That is right I could not take her off until I know for sure none of the kittens are alive.

She was just too young to know what to do with the kittens. If they are not hidden well other animals will kill them including tomcats.
