After my family and animals are safely out of the house? I'd probably try to save the box of photos, my purse (having all my ID, credit cards, money, checkbook, etc) in it. Then important documents (birth certificates, etc) and guitars. Then if there was time I'd try to get clothes and a couple of my son's favorite toys.

My cut glass vase that is over 70 years old, It was given to my Aunt & Uncle as a wedding gift and since they never had any children it was handed down to me. I treasure it.

My Dad's house burned to the ground many years ago (hit by lightning.) I was fortunate enough to have all of the family picture albums in my possession at that time. After all the things I grew up with were gone from the fire, I thought it was most fortunate that the family pictures didn't go too. Material possessions can be replaced, but the memories from looking at the pictures are priceless. I'd have to say if I had to do it again, I'd choose to take the picture albums.

Well the first thing I would save is my family but I know that's not what you were talking about. I would save my children's pictures and baby books. That way they still have the memories. We had a house fire when I was little and now there are only like 6 pictures of me none of me when I was a baby and I don't have a baby book but all my other siblings do. My mom was working on my stuff so that stuff got burned.
