I know that there are some who are interested in writing and having poetry published. I came across this site which has possibilities. I don't know how to do links, so I will just give you the name:www.winningwriters.com. They offer poetry and other writing contests. Some carry a small fee. Others are free. Hope this helps someone.

Actually, I do receive winningwriters.com's newsletters. Unfortunately in a lot of cases you have to pay a membership fee in order to access the free contests. So they aren't so free, are they?
I have been looking for places to enter my poetry into contests that don't cost anything because it can add up. I have had some great reviews of the poetry I have posted online but once they are posted online they are uneligible for entry because they are considered previously published. So I don't post any of my work online anymore. I have posted 4 poems and that is it. I have entered a couple of contests and submitted to anthologies but have come up empty so far.

Publish America also publishes poetry and currently is looking for more anthology kind of stuff. Submit there from one of my best poet buddies site here at myLot !

Yes, patgalca, I know what you mean. I no longer publish any of my poetry online either. That is why I am seeking out sites that might actually give you a chance at winning some money, but, be warned, the competition out there is pretty stiff. You could always try the songwriter route too. I've heard that some pay very well if your poetry is suitable to be turned into lyrics. Good luck.

I am sure it will help someone who just wants to write for fun and see their work online. But for those of us who would like to make some money for our efforts, do you have any idea where we can start? I have joined blogvertise so far and a few other sites.

This site offers contests which you can enter to win money, vampoet. I can't think of a better way to get your career off the ground.

Gather.com is also quite profitable and has lots of professionals seeking well-composed prose and poetry written by both the novice, amateur, or even previously published writer for modern day magazines, anthologies, journals, e-zines, etc.
