I can remember when I was little and everytime I wasn't feeling good my grandma would go out into her herb garden, collect varioius herbs and make me a tea. It wasn't always yummy to say the least but I always felt better. I also had family members sending me remedies by mail from all over the world for my asthma, those however didn't do the trick. After using steroids, not the illegal kind, for my asthma for over 23 years, I finally read up and found out that all of these other things I was getting sick from were all a cause of the steroids. Not once did a doctor explain to my mother or to me that they were unsafe or that you shouldn't use them for a long period of time, never mind 2 decades! As a result, there's weight I can't loose despite the fact I eat like a freakin bird because the medication takes away my apetite. There's skin conditions I've had, migraines, miscarrages, depression (it's a little known side effect), anemia and really bad pains in the bones. There are days I felt like I was 80 and I'm only 26. However about a year ago I started to eat as much organic as I could and use natural remedies that I knew of or could find online. I still have my moments but I feel much better than I did even as a kid and I've lost a little weight too. I stopped nearly all of my medications and have only stayed on a few, which I hope to replace as soon as I can find more natural ways of treating asthma. I feel like I've gone back to my roots and discovered health again. So do you believe in natural remedies? Know of any good ones or have a story?

hello gmakesmoney, i do believe in natural remedies.i hate medicines so i avoid as much as possible unless its that urgent.if it has some seriousness in it then i consult doctor and don't use my knowledge for it.it can be risky at times. for cold or fever or something minor i like to heal it naturally rather go on medicines.but for serious diseases like malaria, typhoid, jaundice they won't work.so medicines are compulsory. for prolonged diseases like asthma, gastroenterisis, acidity, blood pressure, diabetes, that won't spare us,i think natural remedy is the only way.because we can't go on medicines lifelong.it will affect our immunity system. well i am lucky that i don't have any such ailments.but some of the remedies that i prefer are here: 1.i eat two pods garlic daily to keep my cholestrol in balance. 2.i drink hot water with lemon in the morning.it tends to keep me fit. 3.for cold i drink a mixture of one bay leaf, ginger, pepper powder, cardamom, cloves and jaggery.sometimes i add honey to it.otherwise turmeric with hot milk is also very good.but i don't take it. 4.for acidity eating cumin seeds can give instant relief.and drinking lots of water also do wonders.even cold milk works. 5.for headache i drink hot black tea with some lemon in it. 6.for blood pressure pomegranate juice is wonderful.i don't have this so i haven't tried it.but i have seen my friends parents taking it.so i am mentioning. 7.for beauty i use a mixture of gram flour, turmeric powder, yoghurt, and lemon to wash my face regularly.i don't use any face wash. i can't remember much of now so i will stop here.hope you find it interesting to read.

I believe in natural healing and remedies especially because I live in Hong Kong and we have those Chinese doctors who use herbs and stuff to cure people. I think it takes a lot of knowledge to do the natural healing/ remedies right and it takes a longer time for people to heal under those treatment. But I love the idea of balancing things out in our system and their medicine won't hurt our inner system as much. I think ours work the same way as the Indian doctors. If I have something urgent which I need to fix, I would go to a Western doctor but if I want to have good health and something not really urgent, I would go to a Chinese doctor. Oh, and I agree the medicine from the natural healing can be awful sometimes.

Yes, sometimes we have to maintain our daily lives and there is no time to wait for the sickness to heal slowly! It would be much quicker to use modern medicines and get it over quickly, especially when I have to go to work everyday!

I agree, I think for some things Western medicine in necessary but to maintain health natural ways are the best options. I use both myself, I use natural medicine as much as I can but there are certain things I have to use more modern medicines to help.

Yes, I absolutely believe in natural remedies and I take a variety of supplements every day and I seem to get healthier and stronger every year. My basic regime includes vitamin C, B-Complex, Calcium/magnesium, chromium, folic acid and a multi-vitamin/mineral tablet. I also take a Ginsing/Royal Jelly combination for energy in the morning. When I feel like I am coming down with something I increase my vitamin C to 3,000-4,000 mg a day and add Echinesia until whatever 'it' is leaves my body. For cleansing I have squeezed one half a fresh lemon in a glass of warm water before breakfast..and it help to remove toxins from the kidneys and liver. So as those are just a few of the natural rememdies I use...good luck with your healing journey.

Thanks for sharing! That all sounds pretty healthy, I didn't know that about lemons. With so many years of chemicals, by body could use some cleansing, I'll give that a try.
