We are given two hands to hold. Two legs to walk. Two eyes to see. And two ears to listen. But why we are given only one heart?

I am not a poet or a writer but I would like to share this with everybody. "We are born with two eyes in front because we must not always look behind, but see what lies ahead beyond ourselves. We are born to have two ears-one left, one right so we can hear both sides, collect both the compliments and criticisms, to see which are right. We are born with a brain concealed in a skull then no matter how poor we are, we are still rich, for no one can steal what our brain contains, packing in more jewels and rings than you can think. We are born with two eyes, two ears, but one mouth for the mouth is a sharp weapon, it can hurt, flirt, and kill. Remember our motto: talk less, listen and see more. We are born with only one heart, deep in our ribs it reminds us to appreciate and give love from deep within." Source: http://www.storybin.com/builders/builders131.shtml

You hit it right Roni. We are given only one heart for us to find the other.

I don’t know. Initially your question set me thinking that the heart is a vital organ, just like the brain or the stomach. So just like you can’t have two of a very very important thing, so we have only one heart, one brain and one stomach. But then I thought then why do we have only one nose, one mouth and two eyes and two ears? Are eyes and ears less important than the nose and mouth?

They are equally important in us. We are given one nose but it has two holes. We are given one mouth for it is very powerful. And we are given one heart for us to find the other hald of it.

One stands for unique. Two stands for co-operation. The important thing is always unique. So we only have one heart.

With only one heart we can do a lot of damage towards other people... imagine if we have more than one ... beside I prefer to think that means we can give it only once to someone special :)

If I'm remembering right Klingons have two hearts and look how blood thirsty they are. Of course being practical a two heart system would be very complicated compared to what we have which also is why we only have one of many things in the body, stomach, spleen, pancreas, etc. The heart is just a very vital organ and is only associated with feelings and love as a metaphor really and has nothing to do with those things in actuality.
