"We the People" can we be heard?

Yesterday in a comment to a discussion I too questioned why we are not being heard on certain situations. Do you agree/disagree with this letter? Letters: Voice opinion on immigration Park Rapids Enterprise Published Friday, July 20, 2007 Voice opinion on immigration Immigration seems to be the hot issue on Capitol Hill (and with our columnists) with our lawmakers desperately trying to push through this sham “immigration reform” which is nothing more than giving amnesty to 12 million-plus illegals who’ve sneaked into our country. The president still refuses to secure the border to stop this flood of lawbreakers. The liberally-biased media, that’s now almost solely owned by socialist lefties, purposely skews polls and surveys that reflect the public’s opinion that we’re all for this amnesty when, truly, we’re against it. Yet the lawmakers refuse to listen to “we the people” and do as they darned well please, regardless of consequences and how it’ll ultimately affect us. We’re being ignored by the very people who’re supposed to represent us and whom we elected for that purpose. The fact of the matter is, they truly don’t care about us anymore. This may just be the beginning of the leftist’s plan to silence us and turn this country into a socialist dictatorship run by none other than chief socialist Hillary Clinton. It is time to stand up and speak out loud before we lose our freedom altogether. As for the action we should take, I don’t have that answer; but I know by doing nothing we will soon lose this republic that many fought and died for. I believe one reason for this push for amnesty is for votes. Once illegals are granted amnesty, they’ll be eligible to vote and most likely will vote solely on a Democrat ticket because the Democrats have done so much for them. The Democrats know they have a hard time winning when public opinion is against them, so the only way they can win is by turning these illegals into voters, guaranteeing they remain in office, despite their corrupt and morally bankrupt ways. If you want to voice your opinion on this immigration issue before it’s set in stone, pick up your phone and contact your elected representative. Grab a pen and paper and draft a letter. Let your voice be heard. If we all speak out, they will listen. Don Singlestad Park Rapids http://www.parkrapidsenterprise.com/articles/index.cfm?id=8964

I agree we need to contact our representatives and senators and speak out piece directly to them. Let them hear us, first hand and stop letting the bias media doing it for us. But, it's not just democrats, I do wish to note it’s just as much republicans, both sides will take advantage of anyone if we the people don’t stop them.

Im sorry to say this but the ppl we complain to in office, they are rich and they do not "see" what we see, they do not feel it. They go to their upperclass stores and restaurants and they probably rarely see immigrants..immigrants couldnt afford to shop, eat, live where these rich officials do. they are blind to this problem, they should take a stroll into walmart one day, they would probably be the only american in the store if they did.

I often email our senators and representatives and always get a response back either in snail mail or by email. You can voice your opinion and since they are voted in office by you, they will listen to what you have to say. If enough people say the same thing, it will weigh a lot with them.

So do I and they also respond to me by email. They also advise me of other issues I may be interested in.

This seems to happen in the U.K. as well, the government (any government) now seems to think that the people who elect them are not capable about deciding anything and cannot be trusted. The socialist government in the U.K. seem to want to allow as much immigration (legal or illegal) as possible against the wishes of the population of the country, and also give away as much rights as they can to the unelected EEC, and deny a referendum on this because they now that the majority in the U.K. are against this. It looks like this is what could happen in the U.S. as well.

That letter makes a lot of very valid points, and I have to agree with most of them. I wonder if the illegals realize that they are being used as pawns in a political chess game. I just don't understand how people can let this go on. In the end if the illegals get in are are given the vote, it will be the last they ever get because once they give their vote the political party won't care about them anymore. They are just being used to gain the political leverage needed to get power and work on other agendas that are more inportant.
