would you ever marry someone that your parents didn't approve of?

I married a pastor, but then divorced him and after both of my parents died I came out as a lesbian and had a girlfriend. They don't know (or really care if they do)....but would you do something like that if they were alive?

As much as I love my parents, it's my life and my choice. My parents absolutely hated my ex-husband, but didn't say anything. A year later I divorced him. They never said anything negative to or about him (tho they were a little cold -- he never noticed). At least until I kicked his dumb @$$ out.

all are good answers! I agree fully (as I think both of my parents would have). I think our mate and our livlihood is for our personal choice. Our parents should not choose either one of those for us.

It would be hard, but I would marry someone my parents didn't approve of because it's about me being happy. If the man I marry makes me happy and treats me great, then that's all that matters.
