have you ever been given nicknames by your friends or other people?

I have a lot of nicknames. when I was a kid and in grade school, people called me by my two original nicknames, those that my family use to call me. when I came to high school, I had a different nickname given to me by my friends. so I had 3 different nicknames by then. when I went to college, I used one of my original nicknames when I was introducing myself to others. then, I had this gay friend who, one day, called me "marit" and then my other friends followed. "marit" sort of means a grin or a smile (i think so) and he called me like that coz I was a happy person who smiles a lot and always laugh out loud. LOL and then I had this teacher in PI (philippine institution) who once called me "yanyan", out of the blue, and I don't know why. ^__^;; that was once but it was very memorable coz he was doing the attendance check and he was calling yanyan while looking at me and I was looking at him too but of course I was not answering since I'm not yanyan. LOL now, and in my previous work, I'm using one of my original nicknames. but then, yet again, just last week, another friend gave me a new nickname, its "sukamichi" and don't ask why. LOL what I can say is part of it came from my interest in anime. ^__^;; and you?

Haha! Till now my friends from high school days still call me "gremlin". haha! It all happened when we watched that movie. I was sort of a clown in the group thats why. And even when i was in college, friends tagged another nick for me and its "fetus" this time. haha, cant help but laugh really. Geezz, my friends love me so much that they always find a weirdo kind of nick for me... We had our duty that time in the hospital and was on a graveyard shift. Everybody was looking for me .. haha they laughed their heart out when they found me sleeping on a stretcher somewhere in a corner where no one can see me and i was in a shrimp-like position, so thats why they call me fetus from there on.. Looking back, its been 15years or so but still when we get the chance of seeing each other they still call me by my popular nicks. haha!! Ohh, love my friends, still feels like killing them. hahaha! LOL .. Take care. (",)

I do not have a nikename. but I really want to have one. cos I think when other people give you a nikename, most often they want to shaow their friendship to you. people seldom give nikenames to strangers, that is my opinion.

you don't have any nicknames? is that even possible? I mean, I think everybody has a nickname! even a baby gets a nickname that early. how does your family calls you? just by your first name? I have a long name so my family shortened it up which became my nickname. ^__^

I laughed at her actually so untill this day I have the nickname hippo. I am a lot skinner then I was then too. This same guy didn't like either one of us but she was mad because the teacher told him to help me out with my Math which was mixed fractions I was 16 so it confussed me I will be 35 next month and I still have this same nickname by my close friends.

hi inday! ^__^ im sure you're sweet as a rose. ^__^ in many provinces here, inday is a term used for little girls when the person calling the girl doesnt know the girl's name. in short, its a general term for little girls. and then, it became only "'day" which could also be used, not only for little girls but for older girls and women. ^__^

It was a few of the students in school that would say that because of what I could do with my voice. That was another reason for people calling me Mystique. I was not like the other children. I am still like other people.

my parents already decided my nickname before i was born...problem was, they have no way of knowing if it's going to be a boy or a girl...following old beliefs regarding the gender of the baby, they decided that i'll probably be a girl...then, voila!a boy came out. But still i was stuck with a female nickname.."nene", cruel, really cruel! :-)

Hello! i do have lots of nicknames, usually given by my friends. My nickname is actually cess, but my name is diana. my officemates call me dg (initials of my name) or di (pronounced day) and my siblings call me plentot (pls dont ask why!) I'm also known as pox. haha..That started as a joke between my office buddies and me. I used to play a lot of DOTA (its an online game) and being the only girl who plays, they jokingly refer me as their pok2(means a girl for hire, sorry it seems not usable here.) I guess that stuck and that's actually what my username is.

I have several nicknames too. Presently, I have 3. My family, my friends and my colleagues are calling me in different nicknames. But during my childhood years, I was tagged with several nicks. One is Payat(Thin) coz I was so thin then, Antot (Short) coz I was short, Mickey coz this is my fave cartoon character, and many other else. It was fun being called names though. I laugh at it now when I remember it but I used to get angry at those people calling me unusual names. I even cried being called such. Oh well, that was all part of the adventure of life.

Most people just shorten my name to Cass, others call my Cassie or Cassie-Cass (mainly only two people call me that) and my friend of 15 years calls me Bug or Cricky because my entire family calls me Cricket. As to how I got the name Cricket - when I was born the first thing out of my grandmother's mouth was "she looks like a cricket". I'm 17 now and I still can only think of one family member who does not call me Cricket. And of course, when you know someone for that long you pick up on family nicknames so it became Cricky or Bug. A lot of people consider me the "crazy redhead" and some of last years seniors call me RedHead when they see me because a friend purposefully tried to make it catch on since that was what she called me for about 6 years. She pulled a fast one on me and on my class sweatshirt erased what I had wrote to be put on the shirt and put in RedHead so now my class sweatshirt says on the back, RedHead. I really don't think I have any more nicknames but there are still quite a few.

I had several nicknames when I was a child. Then as a teen I used to street race so I got a couple of extra names there. Then when I started pole dancing and stripping I started using the name Blackberry, that one has stuck for a long time. There are still people who call me that. I have changed my dancer name several times and many people call me Shay which is what I call myself. So yes, I guess that we attract so many different people to our different sides that they jsut name us for the side that they see.

I have so many nicknames that I wonder if anyone knows what my real name is. LOL Sometimes the nicknames develop from the children because they have a hard time pronouncing my name. Sometimes, they come from the heart of a friend. Their nicknames that they have bestowed on me are usually terms of indearment. I treasure those names the most.

yeah. someone here, I think it was nairn said that her baby brother had a hard time pronouncing her name and he said it differently and that became her nickname which she really loves. I have a young nephew who's still not talking very straight but he can say my name very clear, the one thing he can't say is the "tita" before my name. he can only say "ta" and then add my nick. ^__^ but that was before. I think he can say my name with "tita" very nicely. ^__^ I love nicknames given to me by my dear friends. it makes me unique to them and its like, some personal bond among us. and I love the fact that they call me differently from how other people do. ^__^

hey secretbear, you came up with yet another interesting discussion.ya i would like to share my nick names too.i hope you won't get confused or forget them.i have got lots of them and i don't think i can jot it down here. what i think is nicknames are given as and called as a symbol of love and caring and concern.so whenever somebody is very close to us he/she never calls us by our original name.if so it would be rather formal.just to cut short the gap between two individuals short, cute and innocent names are given. my parents and relatives call me rinku, rikun, neelu, buli,.my fiancee calls me sunu, suna, dhana, sexy, honey and lots more.my friends call me sangs.thats short form of my original name.some of them even call me genius as i always top my exams. i hope you aren't confused.you would have never heard so many names of a single person.lol!!!!!!

LOL I'm not confused but I'm sure I'm only going to remember you as rinku. ^__^ I like the sound of that name and when that happens I tend to strongly associate that name to the person and always call the person by that name. ^__^ I must agree that nicknames are given mostly to show someone his/her fondness and affection towards a person. and that's what I do. some people give nicks to others to bully them or tease them and that's just despicable. anyway, yeah, nicks are given too to describe a person. just like yours, genius, to say that you're really smart. and me, marit, to say that I'm a happy person. ^__^ I give nicknames too y'know. I gave a lot of my former officemates some nicknames which became their trademark. LOL one of them, a married guy whose wife had just delivered a baby, I baptized him with the name "papa dom", papa for a father and dom his shortened name. then this guy, named brando but I thought his name doesn't suit him, I started calling him "brand x" and the others followed. LOL then another guy who I got really attached with, I gave him the nick "babsie" a cuter version of "baboy" which is our local term for pig. LOL he was a big man and at first I started calling him like that to tease him a little bit coz we were having fun that time. but later on it became a sign of my fondness to him. he later on called me "babskie". ^__^ and it was like music to my ears. LOL then our boss, I gave him the nick "toots". he said that's how one of his ex-gf called him and it sounded cute so I dug it ou from the grave and started calling him that way. LOL until this time I still call them like that and some of my former officemates too. ^__^
