For The Night Owls: Do People View You As Strange?

You know sometimes I feel as though I have to defend myself in some ways for being a night owl. Not everyone in this world is a rise and shiner at the crack of dawn...heck, some of us night owls are going to BED at the crack of dawn...LOL. But I have to admit I get a bit fed up with people who view me as strange, make me feel guilty or even maybe view me as lazy...Not that I really give a s**t...really I don't...but why can't the crack of dawners understand that just because one's "schedule" is different, it doesn't make them lazy. I get just as much work done as my fellow folks who get up at 4 or 5 or 6 in the morning...It's just that I do so at a different time element. So do you too sometimes feel you have to "justify" your night owl tendencies? Do people view you as weird, strange, odd?

I am an early riser but I do not condemn anybody for being a Night owl as far as I am concerned that is up to them I would not be happy if they judged me for getting up early everyone is different so ignore them Sweet and live your Life how you want to

My own family thinks I'm a bit batty for loving to stay up late and sleep even later. LOL The other night, I was cleaning the bathroom at 1:45 am, and my daughter thought I'd lost my mind. But it doesn't bother me...even if it's non family members that think I'm weird. I just let them think what they want and go about my nightly business.

Hehe...I sometimes do that to...like suddenly I'll be reminded, gee, I could clean..such and such...even if it's past midnight...I rather do it then while I'm thinking of it instead of putting it off until the next day...when I might forget!--Think we're night owls because we take after our cats..who are usually nocturnal??

How I miss being a night owl. I'm not really a day person, never have been, but due to work schedules changing it is now something I have to deal with. I just don't see how day risers have the energy to get anything done, especially with me feeling like a zombie most of the day. It's a real effort to get out of bed daily at four in the morning, considering that is about the time I would be getting to bed. Any how, unless the person was a night owl like me, I would always get looks of surprise, and sometimes I would be looked at as if I had lost my mind. In most cases that was probably true, but that's getting off topic. lol I never really felt that I had to justify why I was more of night person than a day person. But there were a few occasions where I thought some were gonna start to make the figure of the cross at me and run away screaming "the devil is upon us".

Lol! We must be vampires that is all I can think of at the moment, as to why some would have to make us feel as if we were outsiders of some sort, just for staying up differently than they do. Though I making the best of the day life, it's just not me, and if I could I would right back to nights in a heart beat.

Hehe....we're vampires, no? LOL I just seem to have more "energy" with my night owl ways,...and if I do have to get up earlier like you seem to drag about like a zombie

I've been a night owl as long as I can remember;Even if I need to be up early the next day I just make do without the sleep. It may be the solitude that is attractive to me.I love to stay up all night to read one of those books that you can't put down. Yeah;I get the comments or the dirty looks as well but it's never change my habits.

Yes I feel bad about it. I don't like to tell people because the people I know shun that kind of thing. I have been this way sense I was a young girl. I keep saying I am going to change it; as I am in this process again, but I alway go back to my old ways within a couple of days. the best I can seem to do and be satisfied with my desire for late nights is to go to bed around one. If I do that I can last longer at going to bed early. Yes I consider that early. My best time to go to bed is 3 or 4. Can a night ow ever turn themselves around? Do you think so?

Yes exactly! I don't care to turn myself around and I think that is why I have not been successful! However because I do have to be up early these days it is important for me to do that. The latest I should be in bed is midnight but better for me yet is 10 or 11. 6 am comes to quickly for a good night sleep. I just love my late nights. I always have.

I only go to bed early if I have to...that is if there's some early morning appointment..but like you I'm up until 3, 4 maybe later in the morning...I think a night owl can turn around, but I just don't care for it..do you?

Yes, my Grandmother really sees my mother and I as strange because we both stay up so late, but I get more done at night than I do in the daytime.

You already know that I am a night owl. I love the night time because its so quiet and peaceful. I have never been a morning person. I know what you mean about having to justify to people about my sleeping habits. I am constantly picked on about it. I still get my work done and that includes housework. The only real problem I have is scheduling appointments. I usually sleep from 9-5 so it makes it hard.lol. But its my life and I will do as I want. My boyfriend gets upset because I never sleep with him anymore. Don't tell him I said this but I like having the bed all to myself.lol.

I don't think you are weird. Only narrow minded people will say that. Nowadays there are many jobs which require people to stay and night, like the toll keepers or the lorry drivers. You are what you are, and nobody can change that. If they say you are weird, just ignore them. They don't know what they are saying, their words are useless. To me, as long as you are being productive and happy with your life, it's enough.

LOL! Well I am completely the opposite of you - yet I've always thought people thought I was weird too....... so perhaps we both are! I am up with the lark naturally! It is 6.30am here now, and I've already been up a hour and a half, put on some washing, had a shower, washed my hair, eaten breakfast, and about to leave for work! The idea of being up past about 10.00pm scares me!!! I am at my best first thing in the morning, when the day is fresh and clean and quiet, and the air hasn't become polluted by too much noise and too many noisy cars! But, as I said, - people think I'm strange too. Different strokes for different folks as they say! OK - I'm off to brave the floods to get to work now. Have a nice day/evening/night/sleep!

Why should I justify to anyone my "normal" schedule. I have people who literally kept telling me that I'm not normal for being a night owl. Just because night time is considered a proper sleeping time doesn't mean I have to sleep. My daily schedule goes like working the whole night through 5 in the morning. I will shut down my computer, prepare breakfast for my girls and see them off to school. Afterwards, I will hit the bed and sleep till early afternoon. I normally start working around 8 or 9 PM. I chose this time to work because I prefer the quiet surrounding which help me to concentrate and focus on whatever works needed to do. I'm not lazy, lol!

Yes, I do get those remarks all the time, pyewacket(even from my own kids).LOL They say, "How can you stay up all night?"" I just tell them that when I'm up all night I am doing many of the things that they do during the day. I'm long past caring whether people approve or disapprove of what I do or how I choose to live my life. It's so liberating!

That's probably one of the reasons I'm not jumping at that chance of going up and living with that woman who offered me to stay with her room and board free in exchange for helping out with taking care of all those pets she has there...she gets up at 4 in the morning and goes to bed around 10!!..Yikes I can't even remember the last time I went to bed that early..maybe as a kid??

I have always been a night owl I even made sure I work for a company where I get to enjoy working at night otherwise I would never make it and when I got with my fiance he was a morning person until I turned that around now he also has a job where he works at night. I just think I love the peace and quiet of the darkness and I sleep better during the day but people do look at me weird for it.

Why would people view you as strange because you stay up late and get things done? Everyone is different- I see nothing wrong with you working around the house at night and sleeping in longer in the day- Personally I’d rather sleep in the mornings- but I have to work- but on the weekends- sometimes I’m cleaning the house at night and then sleeping in the morning- I see nothing wrong with it!

some of my neighbors do, they see me up all day and we are always up and about during the night they might think that we never sleep. We only sleep during 5am to about 9 or 10am and the rest of the time we are up doing our thing. So if I am weird then so be it.

Who cares? I don't think my habits bother anyone...there's no-one around anyway but the chickens and roosters. It's 10 to 1 in the morning here. I'm ususually trying to sleep at this time but decided to stay up. I usually nod off in front of the tv but there was nothing on. I'm listening to Dire Straits and bobbing as I type. I normally (?) get up anytime from 2 am onwards...it's a privelege of being a grown up I reckon. I don't see why anyone would view you as lazy...strange maybe (lol), but it's really no-one else's business.

Well..I'm considered as strange no matter what, but being an insomniac and often staying up til morning defintely contributes. It doesn't bother me much..and I don't give it a terrible amount of thought, what others think. Though my friends get concerned, 'cause I forget to sleep some days *laughs* I kinda feel my sleeping habits ARE justified. But you know..it doesn't cause that many issues.

I think what gets me annoyed though is how judgmental people can be about someone if they don't follow the "norm"--

Well I don't find it strange, I have always been a night owl. I would oftentimes get engrossed in a book and read all night. At present time I am night owl and early riser during the week. I go to bed sometime between 2 and 3 and I am up and going around 6 and leave for work about 7:15. I do take my weekend sleep very seriously though so I catch up some then.

Well I guess you can tell by my Avatar that the night owl schedule is very familiar to me too. I am glad you brought this topic up...because yes, I have run into all of what you are experiencing at different stages of my life path. The lazy part annoys me too...you certainly don't sound like that to me...and I know I am not lazy either. You are right though people think if you sleep late because you worked into the wee small 'owl' hours that you're a wingnut deadbeat of some kind. I quit justifying myself. People see my work in print and now I am an 'accepted' nightowl with unstructured work hours. They consider me an artsy-fa@#tsy person with more credibility than I had when I was younger. Do people view me as weird, strange, odd...uh...hmmmm....let me see...it depends on hoooooo....hooooooo I let see the 'real me.'LOL Just me and my owl Avatar having a little fun with the strange, wacky, wonderful world of creative poeple who refuse to conform to the 9-5 schedules of most 'normal' folks.

I think most creative, "artistic" types run better energies at night...perhaps the "vibes" are better? For instance, as far as my writing goes, I seem to do my best after midnight...why, not a clue...just do
