Talking to people and using mostly "you know" and "that thing in the thingy"

I was just talking to my husband and I was trying to explain something and it came out like this..I got an e-mail from, um..and I don't want to respond, (my hands are going in every direction), because they are, well you know, and yep, that is about it. He was like, "that made alot of sense." Sarcastically...(as he is waving his hands around like I was doing). I knew what I wanted to say but the words just weren't coming out of my mouth....If this makes any sense to some of you then respond, please, and if it doesn't make any sense and you don't want to respond I will understand. "Auntie Em, It's a twister". Does anyone else do this? Please tell me you do.

Ok...not only are we two peas in a pod, but it sounds like our husbands are too! I am notorious in my family for using the word "thingamawhozitwhatsit" when I can't think of what something is called. And I have perfected using "you know" in all of my conversations. And Heaven forbid if my hands were ever tied behind my back, because then I would have the hardest time getting my points across (or so my hubby says, anyway). LOL That darned twister has taken up permanent residence in my brain...ahh, I mean...house.

We are the oddest two peas in the pod, or is it 4 peas in a pod, I have ever seen.."You know", is big with me, and he will say, "if I knew I would be telling you, instead of you telling me." I am like, "yeah, I know." LOL

Good grief. Our uniqueness is going to get us all in trouble, I can just see it now.."You 4, yeah you, the unique quadruplets, come over here. We really need to have a talk with the four of you." LOL....LOL

I can quite easily become tongue tied while trying to explain something quickly, so there's a lot of hand expressing and so forth. I think that's quite ok. One thing that I think is a little unneccessary is when I see some high profile person on tv, explaining something, and after every fourth or fifth word is 'you know'! I've seen some that have had at least half a dozen 'you knows' in one sentence. It's like, if I know, why tell me,lol!

Yes, I'm right up there with you. I don't know if it's just all the stress I'm under, or if I'm on the verge of alzheimers. One thing that I have a hard time remembering, is the air conditioner. If I just blurt it out" turn off that , I always call it the furnace. my husband and son always tease me about it. I'm not sure why I can't remember it. If I sit and think about it for a few minutes, and practice it in my mind, I can remember. It's wierd. I also call it a thing quite often. The way you were describing something, well, I sometimes do that too. I don't know why my husband can't understand what I'm saying, after all, he knows everything, and he's by far, one of the smartest people on earth. Just ask him, he'll tell ya. lol

After being with mine for almost 33 years, I'm certain that he's the reason I'm going mad. Most days, his voice to me is worse than fingernails on a chalkboard. lol

That is funny. I am not sure what my malfunction is either. They are always teasing us like they never do anything remotely similar. Now that I think of it I think our husbands are the reason we are going mad..LOL..That's got to be it..We have been together for nearly 24 years and you would think he could just look at me and know what I am saying...actually half the time he does..LOL..My husband doesn't want to know everything..LOL

LOL! These days that's the only way I talk, lol. I don't know what's up but the last 2 weeks not only do I forget everything but nothing comes out right. Tonight I was trying to ask my mother how long I should cook "you know those thingies, they're long and they're green, you eat them, they're on the stove, you know.. oh yeah umm green beans", like you with my hands going everywhere. When she was done laughing at me (which she does a lot these days) she said 10 minutes. "Thingy" or "you know, that thingy with the stuff" is how I describe everything lately.

We must be related..I always say stupid stuff and my hubby just looks at me and rolls his eyes..Is there something in the water that is making us goofy?..One time we were moving and I labeled all the boxes. We got to the new house and my son says, "where do you want this stuff?" and I am like, "what is it?" He says, "stuff." So I go and look, here I had labeled every box with the word Stuff on it..That sure was helpful of me...LOL..My husband laughs and me all the time and so does my son who is 19, he thinks I am a riot..

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I do this all the time! LOLOLOL Which is comical, really, because as a writer, I'm always trying to watch how I speak, so that I write the way I speak. Believe me, I write MUCH better than I actually speak. LOLOL I think that making a conscious effort to be more aware of how we verbalize our thoughts helps us communicate more effectively with the people around us. But sometimes, the only way to describe or explain something is to say, "Well, like, it was, like, AWESOME! You know?" LOLOL

i think this happens to almost all of us. i get lost for words, too sometimes. i know what i wanna say. just that i can't find the right words to say. and i really hate such situations. most of the time, i ask my boyfriend about the word. i describe to him what i am trying to say and he helps me out about the word. sometimes, we just laugh about it. sometimes, i get annoyed with myself. anne

When I do that to my husband he just looks at me and says yeah ok and giggles and walks away or he'd look at me and say try it again of course the same thing happens and he finally gives up...lol

OMG!! ::gasping for air from laughing so hard:: You guys are so FUNNY! ROFLMAO!! :D When my brain goes on vacation (which it does seem to do quite a bit, lately), the only words I can ever manage to come up with to describe anything are "whatchamacallit", "hoodiewhatinwhatin", and/or "thingamajiggything." Sometimes, I even use all three of them in a sentence. LOLOL For example: Hubby: "Honey, can you please hand me the pipe wrench?" Me (looking around for it): "Sure - just let me find it." Hubby: "It's the long silver... " (he begins to describe it) Me: "I know, honey - I'm just trying to move the thingamajiggything (toolbox) over to the whatchamacallit (table) so that I can grab the hoodie-whatinwhatin (pipe wrench)." What's even sadder is that my hubby actually knows what I'm talking about! ROFLMAO!!

I have that problem of struggling to explain, I usually end up with err... ahh.. pausing a very long time (ends up somebody finishing my sentence). What I do, I compose my idea very well, slow down, pause and tell them not to interfere, and that I am still thinking. I still use "you know" and "thingy" but I try to minimize the "you know" it will help come up with better idea and with more sense.

my mom is exactly like that, she expects everyone to understand what she's saying even most of her words are "that thing"..It happens to everyone I guess, cause soemtime I'm lost of words too and mumble things which only me can understand. It's ok my dear..It's funny though when someone imitates your words and actions.

Indeed it doesn't make any sense to me what you are uttering :P However, I think I am familiar with the scenario. lol. In my opinion, many times, people just assume, like what I am doing now - I assume I know what you are saying. The other party assume I know what he is fluttering about. When such happens, I would take control and fish for the necessary information. It takes a while but the information will come piece by piece. In the end, the other party will be calmed once I get his message.

yes of course i do. sometimes it's just a look. like i'll go - i can't stand that person she's so *insert look*. and i guess husbands are SUPPOSED to understand the random flailing of hands! haha, i think he was just sharing a humourous moment with you. it's great that you can still laugh and have so much fun within your marriage. there are so many sad posts on unhappy relationships!
