It's summer time here in the States and grilling is well under way in many households. What kind of heat do you use and why... do you use gas or do you use charcoal and why?

personally we use charcoal. Mainly we use it because we got a grill given to us for free and it takes charcoal. Growing up my parents used propane. I feel that they both give a really distinct flavor. I like charcoal because it feels like you're eating food cooked over a campfire. Sometimes we use our charcoal grill to use smoked wood/hickory chips/maple chips/etc. I think a charcoal grill allows more versatility in the fuel you use. However, propane is a lot more clean burning.

I won a portable propane grill a couple of years ago. It's clean, compact, and works well for us.

Great thing about gas is that it burns clean.

I prefer to use charcoal,I think it gives it a better flavor. I also might add a few wood chips to add flavor.

I am with you there... there is something about that smoky wood flavor that sets it apart from propane.
