Pet Dog ...A Patient Listener

Have you ever observed this phenomenon. I have tried it and found it true and fascinating. Bring in your pet dog for a chat...he/she would definitely be lending a patient hearing to whatever you have to utter. At times, I would wonder if the poor pet was given the gift of the gab so as to respond.

Hey s794, That's why I love dogs-they seem to know when your sad or need someone to talk to & are very attentive whereas cats are independant. +'s :)

I know cats are independant, but mine still like it when I talk to them. They may not understand it, but they love the interaction.

Dogs are patient listeners yeah I have one country breed very aggressive, very sharp and very very active listener. I often chat with him and find him listening and then suddenly began to play with my limbs as if he had understood that " Oh My Lord you need some entertainment or you wish to release some of your tensions". I sit and chat and the expressions are as if it is understanding everything and just waiting for a proper time to respond. Sometimes it just listens one word and begun to play with the ball as if everything is understood and lets play it will cure you. Many a times while I am watching a Television show It comes and put it's paws on my limbs to lure me to have a chat or have some play with a ball. Though I haven't trained it throughly but I am amazed by the spell bounding emotions that my dog gives out during the chat. Fear, happiness, surprise awe and aggression sometimes simultaneously some times one by one. I wonder if dogs have not been their then what would have been the world. No one to talk about. A simple scientific explanation behind this phenomenon is that Dogs are social animals I means they live a social life making groups, assigning territories, choosing a leader and partner. So By listening us they try to understand what kind of role I am going to fit in. They never feel harm from and they always expect a work and reward ( as most of the Dogs are trained in that way ) and they also find a no-competitive leadership gratification in some other sense second to being a owner.

Personally I do not have a pet. However, I heard from my uncles and aunties who keep dogs as pets. They say the same thing. I believe that's why dogs are supposedly man's best friends and that they can empathise with their owners. I believe even if the dogs do not have the gift of the gab to respond, they do respond in other ways. I have heard of dogs dropping their ears when their owners are sad.

I agree with this. Many dog owners find that their dog will listen to them talk. Some breeds even try to talk back. They make thse weird kind of vocal sounds when they are attemoting to communicate.

Dear sukumar794, What you observed about pet dog is true. When I was in my village our dog will even listen while we frinds were talking to each other. My friends used to tell me, see your dog, it was listening to our conversation as if it is also participating in our conversation. Once we were talking about going to river side in the evening just for fun. In the evening the dog was waiting and become restless giving some sort of sound since my friends came late for going to river. It also started accompaning us to river. My friend who came earlier said to other friends, see his dog had become restless and starting moaning since you people came late.

It may be so. Because they are your pets and they love to be company. And they would be happy to listen to you utter. They feel comfortable with you when you are chatting with them.

yes, I often spoke with my dog, he could also understand many words, I would say something without any expression or action and he would understand and do what I asked, so I thought he understood the other things also that I told him.
