My girlfriend and I put adds out for people to rent an apartment in the downstairs. We got a reply from someone that said that he was a doctor from England and that he will be working in the US starting in November. He was going to be shipping his furniture to here in August and he would send a check to pay for the first and last months rent plus he wanted me to pay the furniture movers when they delivered the furniture. Well a check arrived for $10,000 . I have not signed anything and I did check out the hospital that he said that he worked out (they have not heard of him). My girlfriend is going to have the check looked at by our bank to make sure if it is legal or a scam (which I think it is). Have anything like this happened to you?

It hasn't happened to me but make sure the bank clears it with whoever it was drawn from otherwise it will be your responsibility to pay it back to the bank. I had a discussion about this not too long ago with my bank manager and it happens all the time. Good luck to you.

I have not rented out my apartment before to anyone, so I have not been a victim of a scam related to home rental. But I have been a victim of many scams of money making schemes on the internet and have lost quite a substantial amount of money to these cheats. The internet is so rife with cheats, tricksters and scammers I am so wary of parting my money in any scheme now after all the experience I've gone through.
