Scared to ask for a raise at work?

This employer shot 2 of his employees because they kept asking for a raise. Wow! How crazy is that! http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/07/31/raise.denied.ap/index.html

Unreal! If only the guy would of talked to his employees about the financial part of the business, maybe they would of helped him bring the business in the black. They more than likely had no clue the business was failing when they asked for pay raises. So sad that this had to happen.

Thanks, you may have saved my life. Who knows what might have happened if I had gone through with what I was going to ask my boss. Of course, if my wife (my boss) does kill me it could be for one of many reasons.

I read that article this morning. I can not believe the guy shot his employees. You would think that times were tight and he would have just told them so and motivated them to sell!

That is really crazy. I am glad I don't work for a boss like that.

Wow, that's crazy. It's like people don't know how to say "no" anymore. In my workplace, we get cost of living raises regularly. But, no one in our classification can get a raise by asking, nor do we get bonuses. So, there's no use in asking. You either take what they pay you or you find another job.

It is indeed crazy to shoot the employees just because of it. Perhaps the employees are not tactful enough. They could find other ways to get a raise instead!

That's different. Usually it's an employee who kills the boss and a few co-workers. I've always heard it can't hurt to ask when it comes time to ask for a raise, but in this case, it sure did.
