I just got off the phone with PetSmart a little while ago and they want me to come in for a job interview later today! I'm so nervous! I'm taking any tips on how to make it a good one! Please help, and thank you :)

This is kind of a tough one, 'cause I need to be able to practice what I preach. One way to get over all kinds of insecurity is simply not to think of yourself. Show confidence, and focus your attention on the matter at hand, ask questions about the job, and without kissing up make friends/impress the interviewer(s). dr...

Yeah...about the questions thing. I do have problems asking questions lol. I know it's not good but I am not very vocal if I don't know someone! hehe. that's why I like the position I'm applying for. I won't have to deal with customers at all. I'll be working a shift that's 10pm-7am and I will just be taking care of the animals at the PetsHotel. So it's perfect for me!

Oh that is exciting! You would be so good working there with the way you love animals. I would just say to make sure to smile, show up in a neat attire, and make sure you ask questions about the job. It shows real interest in the job, but also you can be sure what you are getting into. Oh, and make sure your posture is good if you're sitting down. You'd be surprised how many people get nervous and forget that, LOL.

Okay posture...smile...questions...love for animals! Got it! :) Oh clothes! What I'm planning on wearing is black jeans, with a red/white/black striped shirt that has a buckle between one of the shoulders and neck...I don't know if I described it well but it is a nice outfit!

Best I can give you is to be calm and relaxed, that shows confidence and they love that. Just don't over do it cause then you will seem cocky and that can back fire. Just think of it as you are interviewing them and it helps.

Try not to exhibit nervous habits like playing with your hair a lot or shaking your leg. It is distracting and really shows how nervous you are. Smile a lot and try to relax! Good luck!

Hi LilyoftheThorns! :) First impression first. Make sure that you look in your best. :) Wear a corporate attire: collared blouse with blazer and slacks. :) Make sure that you're also well-groomed and you put on the right make-up. (",) Then, wear that confident smile. Never be nervous. Have faith in yourself. Be confident of what you know. :) Pray and ask for His guidance. And oh! Bring a pen. They might give some exam after the interview. :) I hope you'll be able to read my post before your job interview. :) Take care and God bless! *mwaaahUgz*

Be calm, respectful, eager to be helpful. If you think you would have a problem with something, be sure to tell them there might be a problem - like you can't lift that 100 dog house, you'll have to get help - they want you to recognize your limitations. Be sure to recount all the animal experience you have & that you aren't afraid of reptiles - how about snakes & spiders? I know they sell the stuff for the animals at PetsMart, make sure you let them know something of the subject.

Go into PetSmart the day before. Why? So you can be sure you know the way there and not get lost. I had a really wonderful interview lined up and I got lost. It was horrible. Also so you know what kinds of animals they have in that specific store and anything else that is there. For instance, the PetSmart here has a training area with a pet trainer. It has another area with groomers. Make sure you know how the store is organized. You don't need to be nervous; you are very good with animals. You are smart. You are Pet Smart! OK? You care about meeting the needs of people and their animals. Now, are you a hard worker? They need hard workers there. What position did you apply for/getting an interview for? Do you have all your paperwork? Resumé plus a list of names, telephone numbers and addresses for previous positions and names and numbers/addresses of references? Two forms of ID or a picture ID and a Social Security Card should also be brought in case they hire you "on the spot." Organize everything in a port-folio binder. Take care

Just be yourself and treat your conversation as if you're just talking to your freind.
