Why is my cat doing this?

Okay my oldest cat (3 1/2 years old) is now peeing on my stuff. I had a pair of shorts laying on the floor for five whole minutes (and they were clean!). When I picked them up, they were soaked with her pee. What is the deal? She is not sick or else she would be peeing everywhere, so why on my stuff? She also pees on plastic wrappers. The other day I had an empty diaper wrap laying on the couch and she peed on it. My mother in law seems to think that Lucy is jealous. I have done nothing to this cat and I give her attention every day and she even sleeps with me at night. Why would she pee on my stuff? I honestly believe that cats (or any animal) do have feelings of jealousy and revenge sometimes-- but others believe that animals cant feel these emotions. Do you believe animals have these feelings? And do you know what I can do to make my cat happy again?

Something has happened or changed to interupt her life. What she is doing is natural behaviour for this, she is marking her teritory..There is no jealousy or spitefulness in this act, they dont understand that..She feels threatened in some way so its natural..

But what could have changed? Everything is the same... and why on my pants? Is she mad at me? IS she trying to mark my stuff? I dont get why she is doing this and I wish she would stop. My husband is going to get mad if she starts peeing on everything. I wish I knew what to do help her. I have 2 other cats and they aren't doing that.

She is marking you as her teritory...Did you have visitors, or maybe the cats had a fight...I really do not know..Is she spayed ??.

yep, she's been spayed for years. I wish I knew why she felt funny. She hasn't peed on anymore things but I've been watching her like a hawk and giving her lots of attention. I'm kinda wondering if the boxes (we have 3) were a little low on litter? They weren't dirty, but a little low. That's the only thing I can think of that would have upset her.

Not sure how old your child is, but it could be a jealousy factor, depending on how long ago it all started. It could also very well be a something like urinary tract infection, to the litter (not clean enough or just not liking the feel of it) to not getting enough affection, perhaps, when compared to before. Usually, peeing on something that is directly yours, is like saying, "Yo, I'm pissed (no pun), deal with it." My mother's cat used to pull this, but did it on the bed and her brand-new couch. We figured out that because mom is borderline OCD and into her little daily routine, so is that cat. If kitty didn't have her treat on time, she'd pee. If kitty didn't have her litterbox clean or her fur brushed just before bedtime, you could bet she'd leave a surprise the next afternoon.

Could very well be the litterbox being low. Other things that are known to set Mom's cat off are it not being clean enough (as in fresh litter or at all), the box being moved, or even not the right size. If you you break it down by trying a few different things (more litter, different litter, more affection, etc.) and think it might be something other than behavior-related or the litter box, I would take her in to the vet to see if she has urinary tract infection, perhaps.

Thank you :) That is my plan. I've narrowed it down mostly to the litter being really low in the box. I have filled it up, freshened everything and so far so good. If she pees on my floor again, I'm just going to have her checked just to be safe. Thanks for your help!

My child is 14 months old, and he now plays on the floor (doesnt crawl yet) so I wonder if she is mad about that? I still give all my cats attention so I just dont know. After trying to figure this out for days, I'm wondering if she was mad about the litter in the boxes being kinda low.

ethier the litter might need to be changed or if the cat remebers scent on the diapers before it is a natural thing to mark an area girls or males and it is that they remeber that my cat sometimes uses the bath room in my sons room remebering scent or where i cahnge him and all and she uses it there even if you scoop the litter though and it is not fresh they will do it i do not believe it is jealousy if it id that the cat would always try to come in between the 2 like when you are holding your baby jump up at same time and try to get attention and all.

Sorry for laughing, but it is funny. I do believe that animals do have feelings. I have two dogs and they are totally jealous of each other. And they are spoiled rotten. If Lucy is used to being spoiled (I don't know how many cats you have), I do believe that absolutely anything could have set her off to be jealous of whoever and whatever and she reacts. The fact that she "picks" certain things to pee on kinda gives the attitude away. But I have no clue what to do to make her happy again. Maybe it's just a phase!

Jasmine, Smeegle and Lucy - My 3 "cingular bars"
Ever since I changed the litter and added a lot more to it, she has been fine. I haven't left anything on the floor though, just in case. LOL I really hope she's done peeing on stuff now!here's my 3 cats....

I had to get rid of a cat because he was doing that really bad. Mostly on my sons things though. He went crazy one day and peed over 2 dozen times in a few minutes so he had to go. We kept taking him to the vet and he was perfectly healthy and as the vet said He had an attitude problem...lol. We bought Feliway spray which worked but then he would find other places to pee. I would have used the entire bottle each day. I hope you can find something that works to make her happy again. What about treat time? Thats what we do with our cat (that we still have). I sit on the couch and throw snacks out. She chases them down and begs for me. A little exercise and bonding.

I give my 3 treats once in a while. Maybe I should give them more. i feel bad because 1 of my cats (I have 3) is so picky about treats. She will sniff it but don't eat them. Then I feel bad because the other 2 are pigging out and she sits there and stares like she really wants to eat, but doesn't. LOL It's weird!

Hi guss2000 that is definetly a sign that your cat is sick. You should take her to the vets. And yes cats do have feelings. She could have urinary tract infection in which she would have to take antobotics.
