Every human being has a right to life, perhaps the most basic and fundamental of all our rights. Howecer, with every right comes a choice. The right to speech does not remove the option to remain silent; the right to vote brings with it the right to abstain. In the same way, the right to choose to die is implicit in the right to life.

I agree. I always thought it seemed so unfair to have only the option to live, or the option to take your own life, especially in medical cases where the patient only has a very limited chance of survival and will undergo a long period of excrusiating pain before they finally expire. Wouldn't it be kinder to allow them the choice if they were able to make it? We consider it kind when we put down our elderly pets who are in pain, or those with a limited chance of survival, so it seems a little archaic to allow our loved ones who are human to suffer just to protect the 'sanctity of life'.
