How long do you think will Earth will last?

According to astronomical science, any star which runs out of fuel will collapse and eventually destroy all orbiting planets. Our sun is one such star and earth orbits the planet. But scientists predict that our Sun has enough fuel to last for some millions of years or so(i dunno exactly how long... hey i am no rocket scientist!!). But it doesn't take a rocket scientist to notice all the changes happening to our world now...i mean all the climatic changes, global warming and stuff.... so its anybody's guess how long our beloved earth is gonna survive... or atleast how long we (the human beings) are gonna survive in this planet.... So how long would you give earth.... I would give another couple of hundred years before we are all washed away by some monstrous tide, or blown away by thunderous storms or buried by massive earthquakes!!!

The earth will turn into a red giant and explode destroying our universe in I think around 7 BILLION (not million) years, that I believe is certain. As for how long Earth will last, however, I am not sure. For now I think I will not speculate, but I shall wait and see. Although with climates becoming worse and worse (so it seems, or maybe it's just that populations are getting larger and larger) it looks like there may be epic earthquakes and such within the next thousand years. Hopefully by then we will have technology that can somehow combat natural disasters, if technology continues to expand and improve as much as it has done in the last century, I think it's very possible that when the time comes we will be able to lessen the impact of deadly natural disasters. Well, I hope so anyway :). ~Cellophane

Thanks for the response... but do u really think that population is the cause for the climate going bad...??

Oops I didn't really word that well. I meant, because populations are getting larger, there are more casualties when natural disasters do occur. So the disasters may seem a lot worse compared to previous disasters, when really they are of the same strength.

Yes what u said is right sun is a star, it is ahot boll with boiling gases when the gas or fuel over then it will colapse.but, still it will be for some billion years it wil take.

The sun is estimated to be 5 billion years old and is estimated to have a lifespan of 10 billion years. So barring any large asteroids or the human race killing itself (this also includes climate changes), I'd give the Earth 4-6 billion years. If you want to factor in humans... I'm going to be an idealist and say a couple thousand years. There'll be loads of close-calls though, be it through war or a massive sudden climate shift (or aliens.. or zombies!)
