Hi, yes i also tend to wonder this as to why the women seem so religious and pios and always doing anythign for the well being of their husbands, where as the husbands just love the attention they get, and would never care to take part in all these rituals. Well i think that firstly its the society we live in where our grandmothers and mothers etc, ahve all been ding all this for ages and we are also expected to follow suit, and we do so too, very few are able to break away from these fasts and rituals. And yes some have the blind faith and belief too, that if they keep these fasts and rituals, no harm will befall us etc, allthat kind of stuff, but no i persoannly dont keep any fasts, maybe just the one for the husbands long life, again coz my mother used to keep, and i felt like doing so, just an inner wish to do something for my husband, thats all.

Actually the girl upstairs in the flat asked me this question. My theory is that in India, we the girls are more insecure about life so we need reassurances and blessings of Gods.whereas boys don't have issues too hard to deal with.they can get a beautiful wife and money(dowry) even if they are good for nothing.

Thanks for replying, and well maybe you are right but then you have to change yourself, why remain so insecure isnt it, agreed the men get away mostly with alltheir needs and demands, but i think women in India are rising up fast now, and maybe some day these fast rituals will be done by both the partners for each other instead!!

Well man use their brain and see no point in fasting and girls think that by fasting they can get a good husband (Karwachauth, Shiv Parvati fast) or just to please god. So they fast more. I see no point in fasting. I don't fast because I think that fasting will not do any good to me.
