Did you know that the longer you keep a pillow that with out it being in a special pillow cover that it will have mites and mold? Did you know that some people are alergic to the dust mites theirselves? We are suppose to buy new pillows for our beds every two years if we do not use the special pillow covers.

Well there you go spoiling a good nights sleep...lol. New pillows every 2 years? Yikes, I thought it was every 20. I don't think I am allergic to those little buggers, but I could sure use a few new pillows. A moldy pillow? Now that is what I need to be worrying about...lol. Perhaps I should wrap my body in cellophane to protect myself...This is one thing I never think about...buying a new pillow.

Yes, it's very true. illows are one of the main sources of allergies. Even just hanging them on the line in warm to hot sun will kill the mites.

I have to agree. I have special pillow, so I don't have mites. I have few pillows at home that I run once a month in sanitation cycle...boiling hot..it kills mites and mold... All bedding should be sanitizing once a while. My mother used to it hard way by boiling all in huge pots, I am lucky to have special washer that has sanitation cycle...

Sick yet? Nearly 100,000 mites can live in one square yard of carpet.

I had no idea that bed pillows were full of dust mites and mold. Maybe that is why I am feeling so tired all the time. What kind of pillow covers can help? This is definitely very good to know and will have to look into getting new pillows. One of my pillows is new but the other one is older.

I had no idea either untill now. I have alergies so this was very important to me. I will use the hot dryer method untill I get my new pillows. I will then put them into covers.

You are quite right. It is incredible how much in the way of dust mites collects in pillows. When the weather is very warm, we wash the pillows & hang them outside all day. Sunshine kills mites too. My husband has a lot of allergies so has an allergy free pillow.

mites are every where in our beddings. So we should not take it serious. Actually i am not care if they do any harm to us because they are so tiny that the harm we can omit. Mites are mystery creatures and live with all our life, but we know little of them.

I think if you have alergys to them then it can be a problem. Its still wierd to think of so many bugs just making theirselves at home in your bed or your pillow....

Tossing the pillows into a dryer with a tennis ball will get rid of the dust and kill the mites and mold. I have done this several times.
