i can't study with music because oftentimes i follow the beat and lose track in what i'm reading. i can't concentrate if i'm singing along with the song. but some people can focus more with music. i don't know how they do that. can you?

Hello josan!(",) If I will just a book, then I can still listen to the music and even sing with it but, if I will memorize then definitely no music because I wanted to concentrate with what I'm memorizing. If you would like to study then, go to a quiet room where you'll be able to concentrate. Then after studying, relax a bit by listening to the music. Great day!(",)

The only music I can study with is classical. There are no words to sing and it is soothing.

Do you have digital cable? My cable box has music choice. It is like radio on t.v. There are many different types of music. Each type has it's own channel and it is commerical free. There are 3 classical channels. Classical, Light classical, and Opera. And in my area there is a classical music channel on the radio.

That really depends. If you find yourself humming lyrics to the song that you are listening to while studying, here goes 30% of your concentration, blown in the wind. I'm not saying that music can't be educational because of the lyrics, but that's another thing. Perfect studying music would be long, instrumental progressive songs with soothing feel in them. I prefer some Mogwai, Sigur Ros, Steve Vai, Dream Theater (instrumental)...classic music is great too, though it can be somewhat distracting at times...

yeah it's a lot different if you're already starting to hum lyrics. more often than not, you lose your concentration.

Yes, I can. If it doesn't require memorizing. I mean while studying mathematics, stastics and accounts, I used to listen music. It never distracted me from my studies. It actually helped me to spend more time at study. But, when I need to memorize or concentrate, I need silence.

yeah it's different if you're memorizing or reading something because it's hard to concentrate when you're listening to music. as for mathematics, music is not that distracting. =)

hey thats a very good question! When i was in school i couldnt study if there is some music playing in the background, or for that matter any other sound... but later i learned the importance of concentrating in what i'm studying amidst other noices, its a skill which will come in handy for you in the future. Now i can study no matter what other things happen in my room, hope you will also learn this by constant practice. Best of luck!

back in college, i used to really like having music turned on while i studied. it usually relaxes me and makes me absorb what i'm reading. of course, it's a different case if i begin singing along with it. so normally, i put on some classical music. they say it stimulates the mind. try it... :-)

Yes friend. I think you are really making sense here, but some think the other way. Some go as far as listening to rap music while studying and thinking they always catch up with study when they listen to those type of music. I don't listen to music while studying cos it doesn't get me concentrated. Thanks and have a nice day.

I'm not really into rap music. I'm more of a mellow music person. hehe. Thanks and good day to you too. =)

Yes I can study while listening to music. Sometimes I think I concentrate better when there is something going on around me and I am forced to really focus. When I try to study in complete silence I find that my mind will wonder. I can see what you are saying because music that I like to sing along with would probably start causing problems for me.

good for you if you can focus more when there is something going on around you. i can't study if somebody's watching tv or kids are running around. it loses my concentration. but sometimes complete silence make me sleepy also. hehe. =)

yes. i can study with music on. it keeps me awake actually. and even though i get distracted everytime my favorite music is on air, i still do it. it is also a form of relaxation. im doing this since i was a kid so i guess im used to it now. i guess you should try playing first those soft mellow music and later on when you are already used to it, try the noisy ones. try it. :) happy studying!

Listening to music is one of my addiction. I just love singing along to any song. *smile* When it comes to studying, i can study while listening to music and sometimes i can't. I guess it really depends on my mood and the subject that i'm studying on. But most of the time whenever i need to memorize something i like it when there's music playing, i find it easy for me to memorize. I guess the music keeps my brain awake and get back on track. hehehehehe..and sometimes i'm even dancing while i'm memorizing...weird eh? LOL! cheers! :D

It depends on what I'm doing. If I am doing calculus or math of some sort I can multi-task, but not like writing a paper or anything, that's hard!

Yes, I'm able to study while listening to music as long as the volume is low. The music serves to keep me awake, and sleepiness is often the most difficult obstacle in studying. As for concentration, I mentally shut out any distraction (including the music) so I can concentrate on what I'm reading.
