Alarm clock or internal clock?

Are you one of those people who wake up at a given time without the help of an alarm clock or do you need an alarm clock to wake you at a given time? If you wake by an internal clock, how did you train yourself to do this?

My morning routine goes something like this... 6.00 am...alarm goes off 6.00.02 am....wife jerks awake because the alarm is so loud 6.00.05 am....wife gives me the first nudge 6.00.10 am....alarm still screeching, wife climbs over me and turns it off 6.00.20 am....wife knees me solidly in the spine which wakes me up 6.00.25 am....wife says in complete disgust "how can you sleep through that noise"

I have an internal clock set for 5:30 AM. Hubby has to get up at that time everyone morning for work and has so for 10 years now. So now even on weekends that is the time I wake up.

I wake up most of the time just with my own internal clock. (I've done this for years!) I found that if I get a straight 8 hours worth of sleep that I will wake up on my own 8 hours to the minute afterwards. Even if I get less than 8 hours worth, I get up on time for whatever. Usually I will tell myself that I have to be up by 7am (instead of 8), if I set the alarm as a precaution I will still wake up before it rings. I think that when you tell yourself that you have to be up by 'whatever' your mind registers that as a command and will make sure you're up by the specified time. Time after time I've tried this, and it always works. This morning I had to be up by 6am, although I set my alarm I still woke up about 5 minutes before it was set to ring (and that was 2 full hours before I would normally get up, and I went to bed at 1am.) I like to think of it as 'programming my mind'; I think our minds can do far more than we believe it is capable of doing.

I you have a routine and go to bed at about the same time every night and the use an alarm to waken up I have found that after a length of time my body has a adjusted and I don't need the alarm. This happened on days when I did not have to be up at a certain I woke up without setting the alarm. This didn't work if I stayed up late or partied the night before!. LOL

I definitely need my alarm clock otherwise I wouldn't wake up. Quite often my kids get me up before the alarm though, so I guess they are my alarm clock.

Well, I used to get up on time when I was a teenager without an alarm clock. But, now that I am 24 it is really hard to wake up using an internal clock. I would sleep through the day if I don't set an alarm clock.

I set my alarm clock as a back-up. But I usually wakeup a minute before it is going to ring. It is rare for the alarm to actually ring. I may end up depending on it if I have taken a sleeping pill or had a bad night. I tend to be a nervous person anyway and may wake up 2 or 3 times to check the clock to be sure I didn't oversleep. I need to learn how to relax and just sleep and trust that the alarm will ring and wake me up in time.

I can usually wake up without the alarm clock. But many times it is too early and then if I fall back to sleep, I will oversleep. I am looking forward to the day when I can get rid of every clock and calendar in my life. lol.

LOL i usually wake up at 5:30 in the morning during weekdays and i cant afford to be late since i go to work. ^__^ on weekends of course i dont use any alarm clock anymore but i "set up" myself to wake not later than 8. so far i have been able to do that. ^__^

When I worked I needed an alarm clock, I did get up with one ring, I was not a snooze button pusher. Now that I do not work, the pets wake me up around 4:30 to 5am. The dog usually whines or barks because the cat wants in or out. I get up for a while then I ususlly go back to bed. The other morning I slept until 10:30AM. I guess I was really tired. I do not like sleeping so long. I like getting up early and getting my daily chores done early in the AM.

definitely at mercy of alarm clocks...hahah.. im a night person who works very early in the morning...at 7.30am. it is a torture for me to wake up very early. my favorite time to do alot of stuff is at night. in the mornings, im as slow as molasses and i have to remind myself to put my foot in front of the other...hahaha... i like to oversleep whenever i can...which isnt often:-(
