I went out a few minutes ago to get a tomato or two for a luncheon salad and ened up picking all these tomatoe's pictured. Plus I had 5 that were eaten by bugs that I had to toss out. I have gotten quite a lot of these from the beefsteak variety. Iv'e gotten a lot of Early Boys and also many cherry tomatoe's so far this year. There are plenty more that will be ready in a couple days also. So I've got a long time before I will buy a tomato at the grocery store. Thanks for letting me share this once again here. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

I am glad you don't have to buy any for awhile..When I was growing up my grama had a garden the size of a basketball court..She had all kinds of stuff. We used to go get what we wanted and snack away..We would wipe the carrots on our shirts or the grass because she wouldn't let us use the water hose..And she always said, "a little dirt don't hurt."

I have a few different areas of my yard that have various fruits and veggies planted. All told I'd say the size of a basketball court as well. I plan on making some sort of plan for the garden next year to be more organized. My wife buys a plant and sticks it wherever she feels. I have tomato plants in my grass actually. just a hoke dug and the plant set into that hole. A lot of trimming grass and I hate it. So a planned garden area next year. Will have to buy a tiller that's for sure as I plan on digging up a portion of my back yard for this. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!`

Grandpa Bob, my tomatoes are growing so thickly, that I can't even look under them to see if any are ripe anymore. I found a couple when I was trying to tie them up to stakes in the ground but gave up being they are just too wild to tame. I send hubby out to find the hidden ones. He's good at that. lol

Yeah they do tend to get very thick. I have to suspend the branches off the ground to find the hidden ones and keep them from rotting also.

Oh how I miss growing my own tomatoes...I've lived in an apartment all these years, but believe it or not, used to grow tomatoes...did look a tad odd I must say---LOL--I had window boxes at the time, and my mom, for some reason bought a bunch of just beginning to grow tomato plants, which I planted...yeesh, never realized how TALL they'd get...but oh, wow..the taste of home grown tomatoes vs. the crap you get at a supermarket is like night and day--My landlord was a killjoy...told me to take the window boxes off, he claimed they might fall down and hurt someone...sure...I had secured them so well, nothing short of a tornado would have affected them--Oh, well...

Send some my way.You seem to know alot about growing vegies.I have alot of flower beds and designs on my property, but i would really like your advice about how i can get started on having my own vegies. Its more better to grow your own than having to bother to run to the store just for stuff to make a salad or etc.Without the chemicals. Is it time consuming alot? Can you give me the advice of where to start besides tilling the earth and making rows.I would really appreciate the input. Sincerely, paulyne.

Don't you just love free veggies, well I guess almost free. I love home grown fruits and veggies, because of their taste and the joy of growing them.

I just had a margherita pizza lately. Not sure how it got a name that sounds so close to the drink, but it sure was wholesome with lots of tomato slices and yummy mozzerela cheese. when i was trying to lose weight, cherry tomatoes were my favourite snacks. sweet with a burst of yummy juice. great health food.

I was born & raised in the south. Those tomatoes look good. I remember my grandmother cutting up slices of tomato, cucumbers, and stuff like that, and putting them on a plate or saucer in the middle of the table to enjoy with the rest of our dinner. Memories...

We have a lot of cherry tomatoes but not any big regular ones yet- : ( I can’t wait til they start getting ripe- they are my favorite thing out of the garden! : ) I refuse to buy tomatoes from the stores- they are just not the same- If I have to buy them I get the tomatoes off the vine-
