one of my favorite things that I tell my adult kids is You've known me as long as I've known you. Do you have a favorite thing to say to your kids?

My son is a baby. I have a few, I love you is right up there. I say, Mommy thinks Robert's the cat's meow. If I'm holding when he's crying like when I've been gone for awhile I say, Mommy thinks Robert deserves Love, and Kindness and Patience and Respect. Its also reminding me - like when he had colic. When he was in the throes of colic I would do this sing song rhyme, Robert Kai is my favourite little guy, he can scream and cry, he can whine and fuss but loving him is an absolute must...all silly I know. I have so many more cheesy rhymes for him.

Did you go thru it too - from your wording it seems like it...

Just with the oldest one, I don't think i slept for six months. She only slept for 20 minutes at a time, then up for hours!

My children are not yet adults, still young at 7 and 13. They constantly start their arguments with "But I want to..." I tell them "I want to be a ballerina, but you have to learn to live with disappointment." I may add "wanting things is good, it gives you ambition to work for them".

That is a good one! Haven't they asked why you aren't?

One has only to watch the gracelessness with which I stumble about and there is no question but that I am doomed to failure as a ballerina.

favorite line.... yes i do...."i am not your enemy." sometimes if they go out there are a lot of bad influence they see, and they think it is okay. a bad tyhing can be good in the eyes of the children.

I think I used to tell them I'm not the bad guy or something like that.

I've been very open to my kids...about schooling, about girls talk, about family matters and about my hobbies too...we share a lot of things...and I know their likes and dislikes too. But their favorite topic is about my their father and me...hehehe
