Life is bright without wife. is it true?

My friends wife is very ill; the children are all assembled here. His whole life, the brights well as the gloomy days, led to the best....
He told me always "Life is bright without wife." is it true?

Without his wife, how can he have children? How could he marry his wife in the first place? Obviously, his wife is very ill at the moment so that he not only plays father’s role, but also part of the mother role. I can understand he has put up with the current situation physically and mentally a lot. But I don’t think he meant it.

I am not really following the discussion. His life is brighter without his wife? I do'nt understand that.
