New kitty!!

Some of you may have read my other discussion about adopting two new cats. Unfortunately, it did not work out:\ I called my apartment complex and they told me I had to pay $25/month per cat... I cannot afford that so I had to pass on the cats. I hope that someone else can take them and they find a good home. I was pretty down about it and my boyfriend agreed to come to the animal shelter with me instead and pick out one of their kittens. It was honestly so sad to see that they had rooms full of kittens that nobody wanted. I wanted to take them all!!! I told my boyfriend I was going to open up my own animal shelter one day. I have always wanted to do that. I hate seeing so many animals who need homes. It shocks me that anyone could give up such cute and loving things :( Anyway... after much debate I finally chose a cat. She was so beautiful and sweet. I picked her up and she licked my face and I knew she was the one for me. So I paid for her and now she is home :) The problem is... I don't have a name for her!! My boyfriend keeps calling her "Kitty Holmes" :| What should I name my new kitty? I included a picture for your viewing pleasure.

Yeah,im confused too!Did we miss something in the story?I thought in the beginning the landlord wanted to charge you extra rent for the cats,so you got rid of them. Then you got one at the shelter? What happened,do i need somemore caffeine so i can read right?Anyway, heres some names: cameo, moustache(french name),missie, canelle(french for cinnamon).

ok more confused now that I read your original post that says the pet security at your apartment is 300 dollars and you could afford that.???? I love cats and if I could afford it I would take them all in but the reason that the pounds are full of unwanted animals is because people get them and cant afford to take care of them .

Lol. Okay. 2 cats = $300 deposit + $50/month for 10 months = $800 total 1 cat = $300 deposit + $80 + $25/month for 10 months = $630 total Plus having two cats means two times the food and litter and treats etc... Get it? Most of the kittens at the shelter are there because people do not spay and neuter their animals so they have babies and yeah, they can't take care of them or don't want to. I would not get an animal I could not take care of.

Oh I wasn't offended at all lol Don't worry. I am not very good at naming animals either. Hopefully I can think of something so my boyfriend can stop calling her dumb things.

One silly name could be "seefor", which stand for C For Cat. I hope that if you open up an animal shelter, you won't exclude the canines as well, some of the can be very well behaved, and also need new homes as well.

What a cute kitty. Names are always a tough thing to chose. I'm not sure what to suggest. What usually helps me decide is just to look at them, their markings, and go from there. Good luck hun!

Wooitsmolly, Congratulations with your choice and I feel for you that you could only take one. In any case you and she are winners! This baby is so pretty, and sweet and has such a smart look on her face! I think Jolly goes well with her, Jolene, or Jolly. And I also often go to the shelter and my heart cries out for all those poor kitties and dogs that are left behind when people go on holiday. Really sad, and sometimes you see that the beast are humans and not the animals in fact. You did take one of the poor kitty babies, and be blessed for it dear! Wishing you and this pretty baby a long and happy life together :)

i love animals and i do have one cat,hes a boy and i have had him fixed so he stays around and don't stray. My daughter gave him to me and she was calling him s'spotnose' cause he has a big white spot on his nose, but my husband renamed him "thomas"..I would just wait a few days and see how she/he acts, sometimes their personality will tell you what to name them.Mine is a bob tail and was born without a tail so i could have called him bob..I really would like to have another cat but i have had mine almost 4 years and hes very jealous,so i don't know about getting another cat.I do have a very small dog and the cat is bigger than my dog and they are great pals..I would suggest to go by her markings and by her personality and it will come to you what to name your new kitten.I love my cat and you will too, they are so loving and sweet.

Thank you. I agree about people who love animals. If someone does not like animals it completely baffles me. Everyone in my family loves them and I am lucky to have a boyfriend who does as well. She is a girl :)

First your new little addition is adorable...I think you can tell I'm a cat lover by my avatar, and have two "children" of my own Yikes!! What kind of place do you live in anyway? I never, repeat never heard of anything so ridiculous in my life as having to pay a landlord extra money just for having a pet..if that were true I don't think any of us would have pets--does he give any explanation as to why the $25 per pet per month fee? Is this a practice with landlords all over where you live or just in your apt... Well since your kitty "choose" you and licked your face, how about a name like my one cat...Kissy? Hehe

Almost every place here does not allow pets. I live in a college town, I guess that has something to do with it. Yeah, it's $25 per pet too which I didn't understand. I mean, they are getting a $200 non-refundable pet fee already and if the animals do any damage that would more than pay for it when you add the $25/month charge... but all of the places here that allow pets have the same fees... for some reason. We are a pet friendly apartment complex.. I mean, they have dog trails and a dog park here, but they still charge all that money. It kind of sucks, but I haven't had a pet in three years now and I miss it. The cat I grew up with passed away a couple years ago and since then I have been itching to get another so I am just sucking up the fees. I think it is worth it :) Hopefully next year I can find a place that allows animals for less, I may be renting a house so hopefully.

Aaawww! That's a little cute kitten! And don't be mad, but I love your boyfriend's suggestion! :D Sure it's not the most beautiful name ever, but I like it when there's some humor on pet's names. :) As for me, I don't have a good suggestion for you, sorry. All pets I've had before had human names (Sharon, things like that...) Not very creative, I know. :)

I am not good at naming pets. I have only had one cat before and her name was Angel. We didn't name her and I didn't like the name at first, but she was beautiful and all white so it did fit her.

Congratuations on your new addition to your household, I love cats and have 2 wonderful family members in mine, I usually name my cats after soap opera stars, but here are some for you to ponder with: Sasha Precious Tara Avana Bella Darcy Felicity Gabe Isabella Kashmir Natasha Of course, most of the time people name their cats for actions that they do when they are young. Good luck with this, please tell us when you name her, she is adoreable.

Well by now I've see your other discussion, and I know you're calling your new "baby" Jemimah, but just wanted to say how cute she is, and I'm sure she will be very happy sharing her life with you and your boyfriend. My ambition is to open a home for stray, ill-treated, and unwanted animals too - it is tragic how many sweet cats and other animals are sad and abandoned through peoples' neglect and cruelty. So I am glad that at least one has found a loving and secure home thanks to you!

Amazing that your apartment complex admin is charging you to keep a cat in your own home! in my country (pakistan) you dont need to pay anyone any money for keeping pets in your own home. The downside of this is that there's no such thing as animal shelter here and the homeless animals roam the street and are sometimes run over by cars :( I also feel like adopting all the stray and homeless cats and dogs that i see but alas that is just not possible! As for your kitty's name and judging from the picture i would suggest you name her feefee!! dont why but i think it would sound really cute!

Congratulations on your new kitty. She is precious! I saw in another discussion that you decided to call her Jemimah, so I guess I'm too late in helping you name her. Oh well, I'm terrible when it comes to names anyway. :P LOL Congrats again and enjoy your new kitty! :)

I always love cats when I was little. I would give my cats names that does not come out of a name book. As I was looking at the picture of your cat, I would name her Missy or Tabby. I have a cat that is similar to the one on the picture. I named her Rustionne.
