As most of my friends know ,we just moved from a small town back to Houston Texas...Something happened in that small Texas town we moved from right before we left that was very upsetting..I would like to share this TRUE story, and then i would like to hear your opinions..There was a man in the town with a wife and two small children,he had a horrible temper. This one night the wife saw his temper rise and she told her children that they were leaving until their Dad cooled down because she knew he would get abusive,so the wife and children left the home. They had a dog (a family pet) that belonged to the children and he was about 2 years old,a little terrier, since the man had no one to beat on he took it out on the family dog.He beat that little dog, broke both his legs and battered that poor animal until he was almost dead..He was an awful man.Later when the wife and children returned she rushed the dog to the vet but the vet told her the dog was so bad off and he had brain damage so the vet had to put the dog to sleep...Now there was a big write up in the paper asking the public to write in give the judge their opinion on what should be done about the crime he committed against the pet.The judge wanted to give the man 3 years in jail, but he wanted the public to vote..I was one of the ones who wrote in and ask the judge to follow through with that 3 year jail sentence..I don't know how many others wrote in.Now this is what I would like your opinion on....I am a animal lover and i think 3 years was to light of a sentence, but i did agree that he did need to serve 3 years at least. What do you think about this? and don't you feel that a person that would hurt an animal like this should go to jail? Now this is true, this man and his family lived in that small community.Had I been his wife i would have left him long ago...So please comment.

In my opinion, 3 years is not nearly enough. People that are cruel to animals, to me, are worth no more, than people who are cruel to other people. I don't like them, and I don't like them inhabiting the earth. Most that are cruel to animals, end up being cruel to people, anyway, so why give them the chance? I think this guy should have been locked up for at least 5 years, not allowed to have pets, or children near him, ever. If they are ever caught around pets or children, they should be taken back to jail. I seriously don't want them on the street. Take Jeffrey Daumer, and other serial killers ,for instance. They started out torturing animals, and then started on people. Cruelty is cruelty, no matter who the recipient is. They are a menace to society, and should be treated as that. What I'd really like to see happen, is "what they do to the animal", be done to them, but in a "civilized" world, that's probably not gonna happen. They should just all be glad that I'm not the judge deciding their fate. I could guarantee they wouldn't repeat their crime.

Thank you for the best response. I don't have any sympathy for people like this, and I wish our government would finally wake up, and treat them as the scum that they are. It doesn't do any good to slap them on the wrist and turn them back out into society, and that's pretty much what they do.

I am an animal lover too, sometimes I think I love animals more than people, they ask for so little and give so much back and are so loyal, personally I don't think the law should be any different if something is done to a child or animal it should carry the same punishment, why should the pain an animal goes through be treated any different to another person, all feel pain and animals deserve as much respect and rights as any human....

I agree, when i read this is the paper it just broke my heart.I can never imagine poor defendless animals or children being mistreated in any way. They are so dependant on us ,and i think they should be so protected..Thank you for your reply.

This is such a sad story and I hope the judge gave him every minute of the three year sentence. He deserves more for being such an evil man. If he would do this to a dog, imagine what he would do to his family!
