Beauty Products: Expensive or Cheap?

When you are buying your cosmetics, skin care items, would you insist on bigger brands with more expensive prices with the belief that they would work better? Or you would opt for something more price-friendly instead? For me, I don't have a preference as long as they work on me. I tend to buy more expensive beauty products when I don't have a tight budget. What about you?

It depends on beauty products, if it works best for me I'll go for it even it's cheap..I usually don't buy beauty products because of the brand or price. I make sure it suits me best. I have foundation that is not so expensive but it's so good in my skin. I also have a quite expensive lipstick that I loce so much because it has moisturizers. It depends really.

What brand of lipstick are you using? I often find the lipstick quite drying indeed and I would opt for lipgloss. But then lipgloss don't always have a solid color.

Mostly I like to use the more expensive foundations, but only because they have better ingredients. And, since I have ultra sensitive skin, I can't wear cheap foundation or my pores will get clogged with the mineral oil they use in the product. However, since becoming a mom, I rarely wear makeup anyway, so I don't have to buy the expensive stuff too often. When it comes to cheap cosmetics, I love lip gloss that is only one dollar from ELF cosmetics. Really, it's a superior lip gloss. I was very surprised the first time I used it. I'd finally found something to heal my very chapped lips. If I weren't on a tight budget, I'd buy Clinique or Estee Lauder as they have not disappointed yet. They are very high priced in our area, so definitely a luxury item.

Estee Lauder is really expensive! I have never tried their products so I am not sure if they are really good. I have heard wonderful comments on their eye care series though. For Clinique, the price is not bad around here and I get to try a few of their items. But I don't seem to feel any surprising effects. Now I stick to cheaper brands as well, hoping to save more money this way. Maybe someday I will buy those more expensive products again *laughs*.

If the beauty product works well, I don't mind saving for it. But like funny52f before me, I also realized that there is no difference in the brand or price. The important thing is it works for your skin and the said cosmetics or skin care product delivers what it really promise. And also when I wanted to try something, I usually buy the smallest size or a trial size (if it's available), when I find it gives amazing results, only then will I buy the bigger size.

Right, you are very smart to buy the trial size first (and yes if it's available), in that way, we could know that if it works or not. The thing is I seldom find products which seem to work wonder anymore *laughs*.

I never go in either for cheap or expensive products.Going for cheap products will sometimes harm our skin and expensive will not fit in my budget.I always buy particular brand which is not much costly.I am satisfied and hence continue using it for a long time.

What brand do you usually use? I am always interested in knowing what other people use in other countries!

I tend to alternate between expensive and cheap brands for body and still I think for the body lotion, the higher priced items work a little better (just discovered these days).

I'm the same way as you, I'll buy the more expensive when I can afford to and if not stick with the cheaper brands. Actually, I thought of you today! I got in my Sephora catalog and right away I thought of your beauty site. I'm so excited about Sephora again because I found out that through My Power Mall I can get cash back for shopping at Sephora online, this store used to be my main addiction so once I can afford to I'll have to bug you about what to buy, lol.

*laughs* Right, I LOVE sephora when I go to the states! I could stay there and play with things all day! Last time, I spent over 2 hours in the store and every sales came talk to me, it was so much fun and the people are really nice there! Oh really? You power mall thing can get you cash back! That's really wonderful! Oh my god! I wish there would be something like that in Hong Kong to get my cash back when I shop! It would be too nice to be true! Yes, whenever you can buy there, just buzz me, and we will investigate together *smiles*. I should really set up a shopping buddy business - my friends said I am really good! *laughs*

I think if I have to buy skin care products, I would go for the best quality available in the market. Afterall, it is a matter of our skin and we should not spoil our skin at the cost of saving some money.

I would go for the affordable ones,I am not really particular about the brand. As long as the products could answer my ned then its just what I wanted and would look for. There are so much things to buy and its all about being practical and innovative when it comes to these things.

Right, we can't buy everything and we really need to be realistic about things. I now stick to cheaper brands because I find them just as wonderful.

I like to buy reasonable price but good brand cosmetic products, like L’Oreal, Garnier and Lancôme and so on. But I don’t like to have lots of choices like several lipsticks and lip liners and 10 bottles of perfumes. Normally I like to have two objects each so that I won’t waste them and can keep up the fashionable market.

*laughs* We are different! I love to have choices and I have tons of makeup at home and sometimes I freak myself out with the quantity I have. Anyway, I think Lancome does wonderful eye shadows. But I love MAC more, I own quite a lot of their items and I am really in love with their lipglass and eye shadows.

I don't insist on famous and expensive brands for the beauty products. After all, it seems they all work the similar effect.

Hello wondericequeen, I don't look at the brand or how expensive the stuff will cost me. I tend to buy anything that works wonder on my face. Sometimes, I do go for a cheaper product as long as it is good. If I have a tight budget, I will definitely look for a cheaper and good stuff for myself.

Right sometimes I just want that item without considering the prices or brands *laughs*. Yes I tend to look for cheaper stuff when I am on a tight budget and I was quite happy to find out some of the goodies too! I think I have more surprises when I use cheaper stuff because I don't really have a high expectation on them and once they are good, I would be like "AMAZED"!

I am not really that particular on expensive beauty products. Since I have sensitive skin, I tend to buy products that suits well on my skin. It is just unfortunate that most of the beauty products that goes well with my sensitive skin are those that are a bit expensive.

Oh yea? Do you have Avene over there? It's a really good brand for sensitive skin! I usually use this brand when my skin is a little unstable and it calms my skin down.

I would suggest to use something natural instead of those made of chemicals. Make a mask by eggs,honey...... Cost effective and will do no harm to your skin. You can save the money to buy more clothes.

True! I make those from time to time when I have time but for the daily routine items, I will stick to commercial products because it's more convenient.
