What are the basis as a good pet owner???

Hello, I have 2 dogs both breeds were basset hounds. I'm just wondering how many people are there that neglects their pets such as dogs and cats which turns out as a strayed pets?
Have you ever tried to ask yourself what kind of master's are we to our household pets?

I have two dogs and they are the most spoiled dogs in the universe-- they are my children. I cannot comprehend how people can hurt any animal.....all they want is your love and attention!
I know that people get a puppy or a kitten cause they are so cute - but they don't seem to want them when they grow up. If i could take in all those poor unwanted pets I would in a minute.

I have 2 dogs and 6 puppies...a litter of Havanese. My husband decided that he wanted to breed them. Yikes! I am SO attached now! I am not going to be a good breeder because I can't handle letting them go. I keep imagining that they won't be treated as well as we treat them.
When people see our puppy questionnaire and contract, they kind of go Yikes! too. ha! But I am not going to allow any dog that has been in my life wind up in a pound somewhere.
So I've put my foot down and said no more and look at all of the dogs that don't have homes already.
I agree shambuca, it is hard for me to comprehend as well.
