The World in Three Colors

So if the world were suddenly bereft of every color in the world but three, which three colors would you choose to make up the world? And I don't mean race, we would all be our own race, and nature would keep it's colors. But clothing, signs, furniture, shoes, hats, glasses, and cars, and so on would only come in three colors. We would still have polka dots and stripes, but they would only have those three color options to use. If you want to be specific hunter green is OK. But plain old green is fine too. Let's just try to keep the discussion in the spirit it was asked. I look forward to hearing your choices and reasons if you choose to include them. : )

I like your question. Back in high school art we were posed this question and then our project for the 1st part of the semester was to make a monochromatic landscape and then one in the three colors we preferred. My colors would be Green: Naturally it has to have green, its the color of friendship, life and nature. Blue: Its beautiful, it can be the sky the water, even some of the rolling landscape Purple: I find this to be one of the most beautiful of colors especially when paired with black or white. I can see this occupying our nightsky and some of the hues of our flowers and plants. These would all have to be bright and mixed perfectly, though I think a nighttime landscape does it more justice.

First instincts say Pink, Yellow and Green. A nice pink, not too "baby pink" not too "Hot pink"...a pink in between. Not a bright bright yellow or too orangey of a yellow, but a little more yellow than butter, little less than mustard. And a green... not dirty army green, not too light green. Maybe a a little more blue-ish than grass but not some turquise or aqua or anything. I'm not sure why those three colors, they were just the three that came on first instinct. What about you? You didn't answer your question.

Actually, that is one of my pet peeves too. But this is the first question I've ever asked, that I didn't really know. I guess I should remember that it isn't real and that the world won't fall apart if I pick a less than desirable color.

I like your choices. The world would be in happy colors, but not so bright that you can choke on cheerfulness, LOL. So you noticed I didn't answer my own question! I thought I could get by without answering. But if I really thought about it, I'd say a deep blue because it is kind of grounding and a 'stable' color. The second would be lavendar because I think it could be homey, reassuring, OR quirky. And my final choice would be a sunshine yellow. It opens up the possibility of happiness in my mind (if that makes sense in my limited color analysis).

Cheerful colors are always good but sometimes you need to be moody! I guess that's why I chose my colors. Plus pink and green are my two favorites. Ha ha. well I'm sorry I made you answer your own question. It's actually one of my pet peeves. I'm like why ask if you don't answer! not in an angry sort of way though of course. I think your color choices are good...especially with Lavender because then everyone could get married. It seems lavender is *always* the color chosen for womens weddings so it's my goal if I ever get married to not choose that color. In both our worlds, I think I'd end up having a yellow wedding. It's supposed to be a happy day right?

I would go with black, white and grey. I always go with the extreme, plain wrong or plain right. but I learn that I should allow some greys too, just because things are not what they always seem to be.

You would maintain a more sophisticated color palette. They'd really appreciate that in Hollywood. : )

I would choose a mellow shade of periwinkle....white.....pink....I love red but to see it all the time would be too much on my eyes. Soothing shades of periwinkle, white and pink would be easy on the yes and pretty, too.

I long for a world of peace, where there is no squabbles, no fights, no politics. Everything is serene and peaceful and calm. The 3 colors would be :- 1) Blue because that is the color I like 2) Orange to add some brightness to the world 3) White for purity of the heart and mind In short it would be BOW...

Only 3 colors? Oh, gee, that would be tough. I love almost every color. I can't even choose which color blouse I want, when I go to the store. I usually buy more than 1 color of them. I guess I would go with, pink, blue, and white. I could mix and match those colors better than any other colors I can think of, and I love pink, so don't want to give it up. I've always wanted a pink car.

My first thought was the primary, red, yellow, and blue, then I realized we would have no black, white and brown, so that set me thinking. I think I will do bright yellow, Navy blue, and true red. Lettering and signs would be good because the navy blue would stand out on the yellow. I just like those colors a lot, and feel they would never tire.

I would choose yellow, as it is so bright & cheerful. I would choose green, as it is natures colour. I would choose blue, as it is a calming colour.

I was all set to agree with a lot of folks by saying the primary colors of red, blue green, but then I was thinking...would I really want furniture in those colors.....yuk...maybe blue furniture wouldbe too bad, but then again, not great...so how about blue, white and red then?? At least white furniture wouldn't be too bad --LOL

First, I have to congratulate you. I believe you've got a very imaginative mind, being able to develop a question such as this. But, heading to the question you posted; I am for the basic tones and I would go for brown, white, & black. And if this would be, I already know that the world is a bit boring one, since the tones I chose were not so colorful.

Green because it's one of my favorite colors. Blue because its'calming and a lovely color, and red because it stands out from any other color, is cheerful, bold and bright!

So essentially you made the world able to have three very different moods, in a world where most choices are taken away. Good job, I hope I live in your world. : )

Hhhmm... This is a very interesting discussion, Ambie! If we consider that black is not a color, but the absence of it, can we keep it apart? :D Well, we can, right? Hahaha! :) So, I'd choose white, blue and red. I'd miss yellow very much, but I'd still choose these three. Oh, and black would still exist, and it doesn't really exist as a color but we can see it anyway. Hahaha! :)

ok, well if you couldnt combine colors to make colors, i'd choose green, pink, and brown. green=the grass, tree tops and plant stalks...pink for blooms...brown for the dirt and tree bottoms.

This is a really interesting discusson Pam! I think it is very important to choose neutral, calming colours. Think about it, if we chose red, flouro yellow and black, the world would be crazy, angry and depressed! I think definitely sky blue as this is a calming colour, a nice orange, to inspire creativity (which might be needed in a world with 3 colours!) and....light pink for a bit of excitement.

Hmmmmm, if I had to see the world in only 3 colours I would have to chose purple because that is my favorite, white for purity, and a brighter colour like yellow or orange because you have to have something to brighten things up! Good question hun! Love & Hugzz.

Hm, i'll take red, blue and yellow. That's the basic colors so i'll choose them so there'll be almost some kind of blending of colors when they're side by side and can make some more different colors in a way. heheh. That'll be cool. It can be a little weird from what we're used to but i can live in it. ^_^

Green, yellow and pink... my rose bushes are the most glorious things I see! Blue makes me sad, dark colors bring me down, and black and white are just voids. And pink makes everyones skin glow... we'd all be so pretty!
